|
|
Just got myself a Rainbow Card, and am surprised to see it hasn't got a Mastercard logo on it, front or back. No mention. But all the documentation I've see about it, the card clearly has a Mastercard logo on it. Is the card still good as a debit card for online purchases?
Secondly, what bank is most likely to give a waygook a Credit Card? I know, I know, it's next to impossible. But I have heard of banks that will give you one if you're at a reputable hagwon, if you're here over a year, or if you put a big deposit down. Any suggestions? |

A freind got a credit card through KEB after putting down 5,000,000 won deposit.
I've also heard if you can get a Korean to co-sign as gaurantor you can get one without a deposit. |

1 million won or more in a time deposit and all of them will give you a credit card.
If you work for a public company you can get a C/C.
If you work for the government you can get a C/C.
If you work for a hagwon you will ONLY be able to get a card with some time deposit as collateral against the card.

Ah ok so it is possible with a number of banks? Which CC card/bank would be best then? Guarantor and deposits aren't really a problem for me, though I would of course prefer not to have to give a deposit.
Anyone know the what's up with the Rainbow card not having Mastercard insignia on it? |

Don't know about the Rainbow card.
I had a C/C from Woori and KEB and after I got a government job I got one from Samsung without a deposit for collateral.
Do be aware that a C/C here is NOT like home. It is more like an AMEX card that you pay off in full every month. Unless prior arrangements are made they don't let you carry a balance.

KEB now gives cards to foreigners without a deposit, provided you're an actual customer with them. They've been doing so for awhile, no idea how long. If you're not a customer, you'll have to open an account with them, and use for awhile then you can get one without a deposit. Applies to all cards. Does matter where you work or your visa. |

waygeek, the keb rainbow card is only a check card. unless you specifically ask for it or the teller just chooses to do it, they will give you the non visa/mastercard branded version that can ONLY be used to withdraw money from an atm.
as for credit cards as a foreigner you can definitely get them. keb has foreigner cards and shinhan just introduced one a week or so ago.
i have both an asiana shinhan cc and a hyundai red card and neither of them required a deposit.
most of the foreigners i know with cc's have had their school help them. i've also heard of people who were able to get the lotte mart adjummas who hawk the lotte card to sign them up. worth a try. |

You got the standard KEB debit card. It works fine in Korea, but once you leave the country or have to use it online it doesn't work so well. KEB DOES have debit cards that do work overseas and so forth, you just have to request. Just go down next time and say you want a card that will work outside the country. |

Mhm, in my haste to get a card with a T-chip inside (as recommended by americaninkorea, that bloody useless sex pest!) I got one that does not have a Mastercard debit option. Going back in tomorrow to get YET ANOTHER card... I hope they both run off the same account, I assume they do... |

I'm interested in getting a credit card. I know the rule used to be that you had to work at a public school or university but I assume that has changed.
I work for Chungdahm (a large national corporation) and make 3.2 a month. Do you think they would accept me? |

1. Best to keep personal information to yourself and off the internet, this goes for your place of employment and salary.
2. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU PULLING DOWN 3.2?????? |
