I was told by one recruiter that an FBI background check will not be required since I already have my F4 visa. Can anyone confirm this? I see postings that request both F4 and Background check, so I'm a little confused.

IT is NOT needed for your visa or for immigration.

It IS needed by the MOE IF you want to work (legally; registered at the MOE by your school/hagwon) as a teacher.

Some hagwons don't register all their teaching staff (at the risk of being fined and losing their license) and a CRC would not be needed for one of those jobs. (any employer willing to take that risk may not have to many issues about violating labor law either).

As ttompatz said it is NOW the law. MOE is asking for it, not immigration. The recruiter could either be out of date with information or is trying to pull a fast one. Recruiter recruits employee for school. Tell employer and employee do not worry about CRC. Hopefully collects fee before MOE comes asking for paperwork.

Do understand this law also means a verified degree and health check will be needed in the future. Not just the CRC.

Is the health check the same one that E2 visa holders get? I gave my school my Apostilled degree and CBC and they had me get a health check from the doctor one floor above us. I did not have to fill out any paperwork and did not get a urine sample for a drug test. This doesn't seem like a valid health check to me.

I'm worried that they really did not register me with MOE, even thought they said they did, becuase my CBC will expire in 1 week. Any way to check if they really did register me and if the CBC is on file with MOE, but the health check is incorrect, would they still expect the CBC and wait on the correct health check?

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but I was wondering how to obtain my RCMP (Canada) CRC when I'm currently residing in Korea?

The last time I went back to Canada, the RCMP denied my request and told me that I needed to submit a letter from the company which I was working for. I told them that I was currently unemployed and was planning to apply for a job when I arrive to Korea; thus needing the CRC beforehand.

The RCMP officers and a worker from the embassy (5 separate officers, on 5 separate occasions) all, basically, told me "I don't know, you gotta be here with the letter"... LOL...

I should have asked my old company/hagwon, but I didn't and couldn't receive my CRC...

Any thoughts? Thank you very much.

For the OP. I suspect your health check is not legit. MOE I think wants the same kind of check that immigration wants. It likely has to be done at select hospitals. I am pretty certain a drug test has to be included.

As to checking with MOE. I have no experience. Ask your employer and mention if things are not good he faces fines and he will lose out on a teacher because of his delaying.

Sometimes bureaucrats might give leeway. If you show them you have another on the way, they might be willing to take the older one and wait for the new one. Keywords are might and maybe. Do not rely on this.

The slow way, which can take a couple of months. Not counting getting it verified by the consulate.

Email/Call Canadian Embassy in Seoul for the fingerprint form. You can get the bank draft at KEB bank, maybe even some other banks too.

There are some services that are faster, but are expensive. Plus it is not a sure thing immigration will accept. Still worth a look.
Here is one. Give them an email ask about there success rates.

Next you are back in Canada and they ask for a letter for CRC. Tell them it is for visa/immigration purposes. If needed print out the consulate or immigrations procedure and application. You do not need a VSS.

Please search the site, this has been discussed before. Use google

The only way to get out of your criminal background check is to have full citizenship as a Korean national. Legally, the MOE can request background checks of anyone for any reason they deem necessary for employment. As a Korean national with dual citizenship, as in my case, the MOE can request a background check, but I am only obliged to give them the Korean version if they want it. I have never had anyone test the waters for me, since they are more curious as to how a foreigner became a Korean, and it never is an issue.
