The staff at my school, a public high school, are going into panic mode because the school inspectors (from the provincial Ministry of Education) are coming tomorrow.

I was informed last week that one of my classes would be audited by the inspector and watched by the entire English department and some school administrators. It's a class I co-teach with a Korean English teacher. We've been working on the lesson plan and materials since, and I think we've put together a pretty good class.

I'm curious whether anyone else has been through this before and has any input as to what I can expect. I suspect that with an additional 15 adults in the room, the students will be stressed but on their best behaviour.

Just wondering if anyone has anything to share.

Happened to me last year. Don't stress.

They come in and watch the class that you have prepared which probably doesn't acurately represent a "regular" class.

Then they all tell you "you good Englishee teacher", a few hand shakes, maybe a meeting afterwards where you just nod and agree with the school principal and then you never get any feedback after that.

So I say it again. Don't stress. You'll be fine. Cool

Lucky you! Mine one is June! I went to one a few weeks ago it was pretty much a dog and pony show like the open classes at the hogwon. Make sure you have a gimic for extra brownie points.

You do the lesson. Then you go out the back and people say nice things about your lesson. They also fill in a questionaire. I would provide a brief comment on why you choose particular activities etc. You may also have your lesson videotaped/photographed. Depending on your school system you may get other english teachers from your area coming to it.

Well thanks for sharing your stories. Personally I'm not too stressed as I've had my classes observed dozens of times before, not to mention half my classes now are co-taught with the head of the English department. My only nervousness comes from my coteacher for the class who looks like she's on the verge of a breakdown.

Our lesson looks good, is full of gimmicks, is very unlike a regular class (much to my consternation), and was 'practiced' with the class today. The class is most unlike a regular class 'cuz the co-teacher is actually going to TEACH. Mostly she just feigns consciousness at the back of the classroom. Anyway, all the staff assures me that it'll be no big deal, so I'll take them at their word.

The other posters are pretty well on the money-don't sweat it. If you like your co-teacher go out of your way to make her look good; if you don't, then don't bust your butt.

Are you w/EPIK, perchance?

Yeah, I'm really not sweating it too much. After our dry run today, I think we have a pretty good lesson going. That said, I'll be happier when it's finished.

And no, I'm not working through the EPIK program.
