It kind of makes me want to opt for simply writing "crappy jobs you won't care about 2001-2005" for that block of time. Laughing

The reason I'm curious is that at two relatively recent interviews for editing positions, the person interviewing would put on their blinkers when they noticed teaching experience on my resume and at least temporarily ignore the experience that was actually relevant. So I was considering lopping off older jobs over time.

I don't mind if an employer notices as I can explain myself, but an immigration policy where an incomplete resume can bar me from a visa is what I'm curious about. I would be very surprised if an immigration officer said to me, "You didn't include your first job in Korea on your resume. No visa for you!"

Older jobs that you feel are not relevant to the job you are applying for AND that do not create holes in your employment history can certainly be removed from your CV. In fact they should be!

Too many times, I see people who apply or applied for positions list everything they did all the way back to that High School McDs job....

Does immigration share your resume with the school you are contracted with?

I'm in a similar situation as the op where I want to leave out an old job when I apply for new ones.

I also have gotten a new passport since I've been in Korea. I have a new passport number. Does anyone know if they pull-up records at the consulate based on passport numbers or name/birth date or social security numbers?

Your resume goes to the school and recruiter (if you use one). I am not certain immigration gets a copy.

If you leave a hole in your resume, a recruiter or an employer may ask about it to know what you were doing during that time as a job or perhaps as a student. Key word is "may".

As for your previous job, if it has been over 12 months and the visa has expired, unless I am mistaken, there is very little chance it affects you as a new applicant.

If you have a hole in your resume. Tell them that you spent that time in Thailand traveling around, or traveling around someplace else. There is going to be some jobs that won't mind the fact that you spent a lot of time traveling around.

No. Your employer shares the resume with immigration and if doesn't match their records there MAY be an issue (usually only if there was a previous immigration violation - like working somewhere illegally then putting it on your resume).

Immigration in Korea will compare your passport data with their data base (even if you changed passports). You will get the same ARC number again as well.

The consulate doesn't care as long as you have the visa confirmation number and there is no requirement on that confirmation number when they stick it into the computer to issue a visa for you to have a consular interview (like an immigration black mark - overstay, deportation, immigration fine, etc.).

A big caveat under the current administration:
The current policy is for immigration to deny a visa confirmation number (making it impossible to get a new visa) to anyone who has an incomplete contract that is still current and who has not been released by that employer (if your contract hasn't expired and you don't have a LOR you won't get a new visa).

If your previous contract has expired then there is no problem.

Thats fine unless the hole is for say 2 years....then you better have a more believable story than "traveling around" Laughing

Why on earth would you show your passport to your employer. They have no right to ask for it. All they need is a photocopy of your information page and the visa stamp. There's no reason to be showing your passport to anyone at your school.

Immigration, however, will need your passport when you apply for your ARC. But by that time, you will already have your visa. So there's no problem.

I pulled a runner without notice and also bailed on my phone contract leaving with a new phone.

I decided to come back to Korea. Made a fake resume with bogus experience and lied about ever coming or working in Korea.

I had no problems getting a new job.

Dont worry about it.

I wanted to piggyback on this thread because I'm in a somewhat similar situation. My school is trying to terminate me (I feel unfairly) and I have a meeting with an Investigator from the Labor Department on Friday.

My first hope is that the LD will side with me (and the 2 other foreign teachers) and either force our school to issue a letter of release, or give us something similar which will allow me to transfer to a D-10 and look for work.

If for some reason they don't side with the teachers and we are all officially terminated, do we have to wait until our current visas expire in 8 months or can we just do a visa run and resubmit with new docs?

I already had 2 job opportunities that could not hire me because my school has refused a LoR and the official work from Immi is LoR or nothing, but I have heard of plenty of people on the boards who have gotten something similar to a LoR from the Labor Department.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

IF they find against the employer and your grievance is not addressed then they can order you released to find a new job.

If they do not then how does China, Taiwan or Thailand sound to you?
