|
|
Hey guys, I posted a while back about trying to quit my job. I'm still working on it. It's a complete disaster at my school and I'm trying to get out.
I got my letter of release and atm it has no dates written on it. I can just fill them in. It's signed and stamped.
My boss is really unpredictable and she has both too much money and too much time on her hands so I'm a little worried that she will try to do something to sabotage me after I try to leave the school.
1. Is there anything that my boss can do to create problems for me after I tell her I quit other than simply be a bad reference?
2. Can she go to immigration and try to prevent me from transferring to a D10 visa?
3. If I have the form which says I'm released from the contract, am I still bound by the contract? (Do I still need to give 45 days notice?)
4. Any advice on how exactly I should handle my release letter since it has no date? Just wait and fill it in when I'm ready?
I really have no idea how this quitting process works but I can tell you that my boss's husband and dad wanted to sue one teacher that was fired (The teacher did nothing, it was 100% speculation) and another teacher had a disastrous time of finding another job even after finishing his contract because they had some disagreement at the end (he didn't have health insurance). Basically, I don't know what she's capable of so I want to be ready. |

1) No.
2) No, UNLESS you have committed some criminal offense.
3) No. The LOR releases you from your contractual obligations from the effective date of release (as printed on the form).
4) Add the effective date and move along.
Get your D10 and find a new job or
just find a new job and transfer - you have your LOR.

You need to have a donation box. The amount of help you dish out around here is unreal. You are awesome. |

I will add two caveats to Toms advice.
1) Had a friend whose LOR was refused because it was signed not by the school/businesses actual owner. I think it was signed by a manager.
2) Some immi officials do like to make phone calls to check on thinks. So there is a chance the official good call the school. School could then proceed to jerk you around.
I recommend getting your D-10 done right away. Do not dely. The more you delay, the higher the chance of being messed around with. Get out from under control of the bad school.
As to the dates. Unless you can add them in that it looks professionally. Do careful on changing or adding. With the vagueness of the dates, I say the chance of immi calling the school is higher.
Good Luck |

| I called immigration and they said that if I haven't finished my full contract I can't transfer my visa to a D10 I can only transfer it to another school as an E2 (I explained that I had a letter of release and all that). Is there any truth to this? |

Sounds like you got a misinformed immi official. It is typical. You can call again and get a different answer. Maybe, but unlikely there was a policy change.
Get your D-10 now, stop dragging your feet. Also by getting it, you can very likely find you just might get it. Also, by stalling you have a higher chance of (ex)boss mucking things up. |

| Well, here's the thing... I haven't actually quit yet. Trying to get my ducks in a row first. |
