I work at a hagwon and we have set books to go by in class. For the speaking class which is 1 hour long, the book is maybe good for 30 minutes. I need some suggestions on fun speaking games to do at the beginning of class to kill some time.

Thanks in advance.

I like that game Taboo. It;s a board game but you can just use the blackboard.

One kid sits with their back to the board, you write a word on the board and the kids have to help them figure out what the word is without saying it. If they are advanced you can make a list of easy words that they cannot use.

Example

Coffee (can't say: drink, caffeine etc.)

Also 20 questions can get them going, and it takes forever.

word association game, teams or individuals. eg duck, swim, water, tea, green, yellow, banana, delicious, etc.

scategories/or list making. make a list of x. if two students/teams have the same word, they dont get points. these lists are usually relevant to the days teaching. eg were talking about camping, make a list of everything youd take on a camping trip. or, ten (nouns) starting with (letter).

speed game. watch korean tv to see how that ones played.

anyway, i always make my classes start with 10 mins free talking following a list of qs i made them glue in their books. (what did you do last weekend, what are you watching on tv later, how was school, what phone games were you playing today, etc.

They get the game at the end.

oh yeah, bingo.

25 boxes. alphabet in boxes. choose subject (eg yesterday they had to complete a sentence using he she it they + verb he drinks milk 'd' they bring the newspaper 'b') eg food and drink . a= apple etc countries a= austria.
5 bingos wins. they must say '5 bingos' to win and not '5 bingo'.

You can milk that game for any lesson/level
