Every time I see the trailer I can't help but think it is about homeless people trying to break into a gated community.

Looks interesting, but hypocritical. It seeks to make us feel guilty because the world is divided between those who are haves and those who are have-nots, which is a bit rich considering that this movie will make those involved in its production, including its star, wealthier than they already are.

It does look interesting, although I think most people are happy with the system of inequality just so long as we dont have to live in a nightmarish landfill getting tread on by uppity robots.

Wasn't that the case for "District 9" also?

I remember people saying this about Prometheus before it came out. Of course now its become generally accepted as being about the silliest SF movie ever made.

Lets hope Elysium fares a little better.....lol

Few movies could top the suckage value that was Prometheus.
However, Matt Damon did do that movie with the hats...Adjustment Bureau.
As he is willing to do that kind of crap...this one could be just as bad...but not likely Prometheus bad.

That will be the new Hollywood standard.
Two thumbs up.
Not bad
Bad
Not as bad as Prometheus
Promethean

What a sad day for Prometheus. First he has his liver repeatedly pecked out, and now he's the namesake of low quality movies. Will the punishment never end?

Apparently the punishment is eternal.

The Star Wars prequels mortally wounded any ability I had to get excited for upcoming movies, but Elysium looks alright. What I'm really looking forward to is Pacific Rim.

If it turns out as bad as the Star Wars prequels, I may just not watch movies anymore.

Lol, priceless......you should send that to Screen Rant or Rotten Tomatoes as the new rating standard for SF movies.

Of course good sci-fi is very difficult to pull off, especially if its movie based. The ratio of classics compared to duds is much lower for SF movies than for other genres like thrillers, comedies etc IMHO. For every 2001 Space Odyssey, Alien or Terminator 2, theres been countless other hack attempts at making good sci-fi which have almost never succeeded.

Actually I think thats part of where Prometheus went wrong. I think Ridley Scott was trying to make a kind of 'grand statement' for this generation much like Kubrick did back in 68. Both movies share quite a few similarities. Neither of 'em dont actually make a lot of sense (although 2001 was based on a book which did). They both deal with the origins and future of mankind. The timeline in both spans millions of years. However where 2001 was beautiful to look at, with breathtakingly groundbreaking special effects, a genius of vision, and a sort of majestic splendour (even though the narrative was terribly slow at times), Prometheus could only offer being beautiful to look at. The rest was a jumbled confusing mess. Whereas 2001 became an icon of the time, Prometheus only ended up being the topic of argument in sci-fi blogs about what it actually meant for a few months after its initial release.
