I've been going to Musicland since I've been here and the place is pretty good. I think it's on Jongno 3 ga or something like that. It's right near Tapgol Park.
Is there any place better or just as good?
And do you know if they'll order CD's for me? I have about 20 I want to buy that they don't have.
Thanks. |

The music store in COEX is pretty big. I'm sure any store could get anything you want. |

Thanks. |

Sanga Records in Apkujung and Purple Records in Hongdae have some really good collections... I'd say Sanga has the best collection in Seoul |

There are lots of Cd's and DVD's at the electronics market at Yongsan. Just come out of the subway and go through the main station following the the signs to the electronics market. You will be totally amazed. The whole area would take half a day to get round and there must be more mobile phones, cameras, computers, DVD's and CD's per square meter than anywhere else in the world! Beware of the pirated DVD's - there aren't many but they're easy to spot and have been filmed in the cinema theatres e.g. 'The Passion of the Christ' which isn't even out on disc yet, and the quality is crap. Strangely computer software requires a treasure map to find and it's not cheap so forget it. |

COEX is the largest shopping mall in Korea. It is at Samsung Station, exit 6, line 2. There are 2 Kyobos that I know of in Seoul, another in Incheon. The first is on Jongro, near the American embassy. Another is at Kangnam Station. Walk 2 blocks out exit 6. The CDs for this store are in the basement.
There is also a good music store in Kangnam Station. |

If you say what kind of CDs you're after it might be easier to help- there are a few record shops here and there that specialise in non-mainstream stuff if that's what you're after. |

Can you be more specific about the location of these places? It's been ages since I pored over a record store's extensive collection. Is it really anything to be excited about?
I used to work at Tower Records back in my college days and would tend to go over to Newbury Comics (a smaller scale chain store) on my lunch breaks. I would find a lot of my co-workers there too. It just had such a cool collection of music (cooler than tower) and a much better local music section.
Damn, you know what? Even though that job paid me crap, I really miss the kind of people I worked with there. Everyone liked different kinds of music, but everyone was also really passionate about it. Very interesting people to work with... |

The one in Gangnam station is called Synara Records, it's over near exit six (maybe number 7).
There's also a Synara Records above-ground in Gangnam, it's on the ZOO002 side of the road, but it's before you come to the big cinema complexes. |

Purple Records: From the subway station (exit 6) walk up the hill on the left hand side of the road, until you get to the top and have to go either left or right. Go left, and Purple records is on the left hand side past that "Coffee Bean" place and a shop selling magazines. It sells loads of guitar based stuff, as well as hip-hop, and some electronica.
There's also City Beat which does a lot more dance/electronic stuff (including vinyl)- if you're at the park next to the Hong-Ik university gates, you should see a Turkish kebab shop on the far right of there, City Beat is kind of opposite and a bit to the left of that. |

For Sanga records, take the subway to Apku and get out and walk towards Galleria its on the right hand side of the road just before the Sangsu Bridge intersection.
Yeah I know bad directions, but I dont catch the subway much and am pretty bad with directions. |

The last time I was in Seoul I was told my beloved Musicland is no longer open. So how about this Sanga records in Apkujeong? Still breathing? I still have about 20 CD's to buy. |

That's where I found Ultramagnetic MCs 'Critical Beatdown' and Brand Nubian's 'One for All'. Do they still have a lot of hard-to-find hip-hop?
