Then you are saying two completely different things.

Yes, you're right again. I have indeed referred to two different factors which I think influence drivers honking at those in front of them.

Except those factors oppose each other.

Just expressing agreement and approval of some things you posted. Which it seems you don't particularly like. But that's ok, and as I said before, stay safe out there. Smile

Again with the false assessment of what I don't like, or what I am frustrated with? I'm just trying to understand why you made opposing statements.

No, I quite agree. Drivers behind honk because they think the car in front doesn't realise they're there.

They honk because the driver of the car in front doesn't think to check their mirrors/blind spots or signal before pulling out or into a different lane. Again, it goes to unsafe practices and lack of acknowledgement.

Well, as someone who actually drives a car here, the driver behind you honks because he thinks you don't see him. Now, I ALWAYS check my blindspot, like I always wear my seatbelt (feel naked without it). I'll be perfectly aware of someone and people will still honk as they approach if they are trying to pass me or do something else.

However, why they feel its necessary to do so may reflect drivers who generally don't care.

But the honker sometimes is not responding, rather they are initiating. Other times of course, the person is a dolt who didn't check, or someone who did check and is being a jerk and cutting off the other guy.

It's rarely a problem for me though, as I usually drive like a granny. The only exception is on the highway if one has to get around two slow moving trucks or risk a being stuck behind two oxen going 60kph for an hour. Either that or when the GPS suddenly drops you off in a suddenly terminating lane. Or when debris flies off the back of a Bongo. Or someone in front does something stupid...Or...come to think of it, you have to defensively-aggressively lane change quite a bit...

Nope, I can confirm that. It's just that you are a massive racist and have a pathological need to make negative threads about Korean people. So this thread really has little to do with traffic violations really.

Having said that they have a long way to go when it comes to road safety. Those fast food bikes and their disregard for any kind of road rules should be the first to be addressed and the 5-0 should be cracking down hard on them.

Waygeek and Scorpion:

Respond to the post, not the poster!! If you feel you need to insult someone that disagrees with you instead of having an adult conversation, Dave's might not be the place for you.

If you're saying that Korean drivers do not often run red lights, I have to disagree. I see it almost everyday when I cross the street and take the bus to and from work.

Lol they definitely still run red lights. Someone beeped at me last week because I stopped at one of those blinking reds lights (treated it like a stop sign like back in the US)

Plenty of Korean drivers run red lights on a regular basis. They seem to think stopping is optional, especially at lesser used intersections.

The cameras at large intersections help some. But if there's no camera that third, fourth and even fifth car after the light turns red is going for it, especially if it's on a turn arrow.

Pedestrians need to keep their heads on a swivel.

For all those saying how terrible Koreans are on the road. They are getting better, trust me. Go back a decade, it was awful. Go back to the 80's around Seoul Olympics, it was downright scary.

At least now they stop if they hit something. And they don't really jump the red-light anymore.

Just wish the red light didn't last so long here. Seems like the light changed more frequently in Canada or is that just me?

They don't have smart lights installed here. You know the touch sensor that is placed on the road to let the light know a car is waiting. All the traffic lights I've seen here are just set to timers. It's really annoying when you drive down a road and the light changes for an intersection where there are no cars. I think that's why so many people run red lights here.

Yeah i noticed that too. Middle of the night, no cars around, the red still runs on its 2-4 minute cycle. Why did they never bother installing the sensor pad things? It would help some with traffic flow in general.

And the wait at crosswalks is so looooong. They go one by one on a lot of them and it takes forever.

I agree it's annoying, but that other lane still has the green and just when you think it's safe (and the Korean drivers you referenced often barely slow down) KAPOW!

Besides, it's really just another of a long list of excuses for breaking the laws when they inconvenience you.
