lol why do they have to raise their voice like little girls when calling the parents?
I have one in particular who is kind of manly and has a deeper voice, but goes into fem-mode when calling the parents and it's as if she's doing voice impersonations. Hilarious.

No doubt it's because the parents expect female teachers to sound like that. |

They do it in Japan too. The secretary at the school i worked at sounded like she had been huffing helium when she was on the phone.
Someone explained the phenomenon to me once, but i cant remember what ludicrous explanation they gave me. |

you guys are dumb. THey are trying to sound friendly. People in the US do it on the phone too, but they do a more sing-song voice than a higher pitch. |

Seriously. Anyone who has ever worked a job involving talking on the phone to customers knows the "customer service phone voice". |

They don't sound like little girls the way Korean women do. |

yeah, this thread is a bit stupid. Its called a 'telephone voice'. Allowing for cultural differences, korean women would be a bit squeaky (not all are though).
You may have noticed they do a 'squeaky thing' that sounds nothing like their normal voice, when theyre doing some other stuff too (if you havent experienced it first hand, go to a love motel on a saturday night). |

Had some neighbors here and the woman sounded like a puppy barking when 'that' was happening. The weird thing was, they also HAD a puppy, so you never new which sound it was until it was going in full swing. And, the puppy would START barking when they started, so it was even harder to tell who was who. |

I've asked Korean females this and they say it's good manners.
Funny thing is, my friend back in the US whenever he talks to his GF, he puts on this cutesy, baby voice over the phone. Makes me sick |

They talk to customers like this in most fast food restaurants and cafes too. Haven't you noticed? |
