Hey guys, I just recently received a summon from the immigration office, telling me to show up at the office on X date at X time about 3 weeks from now. I'm currently in the process of switching hagwons (got released from my previous hagwon 2 weeks ago, and am getting signed onto a new contract at a new place next week).

My question is, is the summons being sent to me because my old hagwon reported that I had stopped working there? Or do immigration summons usually mean something more serious (I've heard this usually means you've violated your visa).

I'm really stressed out and paranoid about this. Thanks for any help.

Hard to tell but why don`t you contact immigration and find out?

Could be. If you quit your job your e-2 visa expires after 14 days without a sponsor. You could have switched to a d-10 visa which would have given you 6 months to find a job.

If you got a summons then there is a problem with your paperwork, a complaint of an immigration violation or a failure to report a change in status.

If it was more serious they would have come and got you instead of issuing a summons and you'd be sitting in an immigration center instead of posting on Dave's.

Don't worry about it but don't miss it either.

I can confirm that they will visit if they think they need to. A few years ago an immigration official showed up at my house unannounced in the middle of the day. He then called me, upset that I wasn't home.

I think the issue was that my listed workplace is in another city, so they wanted to make sure I actually lived in Daegu and not simply trying to use a different immigration office.
