I had an iPhone 4 for two years and I just got an iPhone 5 (with KT). The whole time I've had both, I've had problems getting my phone to connect properly to my wireless router at home. It says it's connected, and indeed does work sometimes (connects to web pages, delivers kakao messages, etc), but other times, even though it says it's connected, it refuses to do anything wifi based, and because it's on wifi, the phone data doesn't work either. So if I have it "connected" I miss messages and push notifications - they just aren't delivered.

This wasn't so much of a problem when I had the iPhone 4, because I had unlimited data on 3G. Now I'm LTE for the iPhone 5 and I'm limited to a certain amount of data a month. At the moment I have 1.5gig, but I ran through that in half the month and had to buy more. It's annoying trying to limit my major data use to the times I'm on the subway or in another place with Olleh Wifi, especially when I have a damn wireless router and unlimited data at home!

Is there an easy/not so easy fix for this that anyone knows? Google searches are pretty much useless because there's so much "will not connect at all" noise. Do I just need to buy a new router? If I do, is there anyway I can prevent this from happening again? Has anyone else run into this problem?

Some notes:
*My wireless works fine for my laptop and has for the last 5 years.
*My router is a Unicorn (I think the model number is BW 740, but it's an old router and the number is rubbing off).
*I've tried resetting it and it might work for a bit, but then it goes back to not working again.

sounds like your router is not compatible with your phone. But then again I never heard of this issue not working with any phone.

To see if it is your router, you can try connecting your phone to another router like at starbucks or friend's place. If it does the same things as your home router, it has to be your phone.

My phone connects to all Olleh wifi hotspots with no problem, plus I've used it successfully with many other routers (coffee shop/restaurants/friend's routers/etc). If it NEVER worked with my router, it would be easier to understand, but it does work sometimes. It's a weird weird problem.

First I would try Reset Network Settings under the phone's General -> Reset menu. You might also do Forget this Network in the wi-fi section.

Are you able to access your router settings through the computer? Assuming your phone is set up exactly the same as the old one, the biggest difference is the new one can use an N network on 5Ghz. Maybe your router can do both G and N, and 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but cannot do everything at the same time. I would look into turning off 5GHz and see if that makes a difference. Also make sure the max number of clients is set high enough and anything to do with MAC addresses is turned off.

Good luck.

Thanks FriendlyDaegu, I've forgotten and "remembered" my home network a lot of times with both phones. I haven't tried the resetting network settings. I'll try it.

The router stuff seems complicated, but interesting. Currently, I actually have nothing running on my wireless network as I changed to a desktop last year. However, prior to that, I'd been running my laptop off it for nearly four years. I've hooked it up periodically since then so I know it's still working. I'll try playing around with the settings like you suggest. Otherwise, I might just be best off getting a new router.
