Hi all!

So I am trying to find a good school to work at in Korea and right now I am looking at working for Chungdahm in Daejeon OR Lee Sin Young in Ilsan.

Does anyone have any info about these schools? I hear that having a deposit for your apartment is sketchy and LSY asks for one. Chungdahm seems like an amazing offer and I hope it's as good as it sounds.

I'd appreciate any advice!

Isn't Chungdahm one of three schools (SLP and Wonderland) you should never ever work for?

Chungdahm in Daejeon is an excellent branch with friendly, supportive management. They have I believe over 800 students and around 30 foreign teachers. The provided housing is of higher than average standard. It would be, in my opinion, a very good place to work.

I don't work there but I know the managers and lots of teachers who do and they are generally very happy.

Please ignore the idiots on here who will say you won't get healthcare or pension from this branch. They don't know what they are talking about.

You know, BeeYee, for someone who's "only going by [your] experience at one branch of CDI," you sure seem to know a whole lot about CDIs all over Korea. You're a corporate flack, of course, so you'll not say anything bad about the place. And, of course, you're going to gainsay the grounds for the class-action against your employer.

Are you inferring that I am shilling for Chungdahm? I wish I were, they would probably pay decent money for me to do so, since they pay decent money for me to teach at their academy.

But no, I never claimed that I know about Chungdahms 'all over Korea'. Do I know about the one in Daejeon, the one that the OP is talking about? Yes I do. Do I know about some random branch over in Pohang or somewhere? No, I have absolutely no idea.

My branch and the Daejeon branch don't do any of the things that I have seen the company accused of on here. This includes dodgy tax filing, no pension, no healthcare yada yada yada. Do others? Maybe, maybe not. And quite frankly, I don't really care.

The branch the OP asked about is totally and completely legit and IMO an excellent choice for someone's first job in Korea.

Thanks Beeyee! I was just worried they would overwork me like some other schools have threatened to do. I am glad to hear others are happy there. Also, do you think this would be a good school to start off at? I don't have a lot of teaching experience, so I'm unsure which schools would benefit me most.

You will probably work 24 hours a week. That's pretty standard.

Like I said before, I think it would be a great place to work as a first timer. You will receive one week of training, and then further mentoring throughout your first term.

I would definitely hurry up and decide though if I were you. Places at the Daejeon branch generally get snapped up very quickly.

Oh, I've already decided to work for them. They just have to finish with the interviews and choose me Wink

I don't have any experience at Chungdahm Daejeon.

Neither do I have any experience paddling unprotected boats filled with gold bars around the Somalian Coast Line.

I don't have any experience swimming across the Nile River, but I wouldn't do it.

I've probably talked to more than 25 teachers who have worked at various CDI branches. No good stories from any of them. Sure, a couple of them boasted in the first few months about how much better their job was than the typical job, but by the ends of their contracts they were looking to get out of their not so great positions.

Though I've never worked at the Daejeon branch, I've heard it's just a rinse and repeat of all the others.

There are always a few people who think they have it great though they are being shafted.
