For those subscribing to Skylife TV, the satellite TV carrier will drop Discovery Channel from July 1. Discovery HD will be kept.
Yeah, this SUCKS! |

I think 99% of foreigners in Korea download anything they want to watch anyway. So not really a big disaster. |

I've heard that Skylife is undergoing internal strife and such, but damn, they should've kept Discovery Channel.
This SUCKS. |

If Skylife Discovery channel is the Koreanized version that I get with C&M, you're better off without it. The Korean documentaries are just god awful. |

No, the Discovery Channel on Skylife is the ASIAN edition but well, it hasn't been great lately. |

Tha asian and korean version is different. The asian version will be in english, while the korean version will use a lot more korean. |

personally, the cable networks should play both networks for all specialty channels. history, nat geo, discovery, etc. that way koreans and foriegners would both be happy. but common sense is not always prevelant here. |

I used to love watching Discovery, History, Nat Geo, but they've all degraded into reality television. I'm not sure what Duck Dynasty has to do with history... |

There are so few English speaking people here watching TV channels I'm amazed we get as many English channels as we do. My TV has Bloomberg in English. I wonder how many people are watching that (besides me)? I'd guess a few hundred. I can't see how they make any money from offering that. |

The foreigner market is still minuscule compared to that for Koreans, but Korea does wanna be a "hub" yet has fewer international channels than Thailand and the Phils. |

Look, I hear ya and I hope that Discovery goes back to airing interesting documentaries but Discovery Asia is leagues better than Discovery Korea.
I'm hoping Skylife adds BBC Knowledge to compensate. |

you know, you can very easily get a cable that attaches your computer to your tv and watch downloaded/streamed tv while at the same time using your pcs speakers for quality? |

Am back in the states now. I picked up a Roku-like streaming device (mine is the RCA from Wal-mart, costing like $3 . You can use these things to subscribe to certain channels and whatnot. You pay monthly for the channels, and can get more for your money. You need to pay about $7 per month for a VPN service, and know how to run a wifi modem with OpenVPN firmware so that the box can work. I use mine to watch my family's netflix account. You can also join Hulu Plus, and other services, to get all of the network TV shows and such. You'll pay something like another $7 a month for Hulu Plus, and another $7 per month for netflix (but you need to have or fudge an overseas address and credit card). You can also get subscriptions to sports, like major league baseball, etc. There are over 400 channels, although many are crap.
I got a cheapie, after trying the Roku, but took the Roku back (Roku doesn't do Youtube and I really needed it). The Roku is really the best overall, though, if you're planning to buy a few channels.
These are really an awesome thing, and I made a post about it in the tech section a month or two ago. |
