If travel destinations were school kids, Jeju Island would be the overachiever.
It packs diversity in its modest size, but the best of Jeju Island juggles multiple attractions with aplomb and never at the expense of quality.

I really enjoyed a four day trip to Jeju and was surprised to find it lives up to the hype.
The scenery's fantastic and the beaches are about as good as nice as I've seen in non-tropical locations. I also stayed in some Guesthouses that were clean, cheap, and had a "travel" vibe I haven't found other places in Korea. |

Uh oh! Someone wrote a positive article about a destination in Korea. Can't have that now can we! Someone email her and put her in her place. |

I also enjoyed Jejudo. It's not Hawaii, but it's a nice place for an escape for a few days. I enjoyed it even though I visited in the winter. I'm sure it's even nicer in the summer.
Worth a visit. |

When I read an article about Korea the first thing I look at is the last name of the author. |

At the risk of sounding like a provincial ugly American, one of the things I love most about Jeju is the fact that they have a Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum. I'm a HUGE Ripley's fanboy.
That being said, I actually like Geoje a bit better than Jeju. |

With Koreans dressed from head to toe, especially the ones swimming .
Every time I travel I can always spot the Koreans when at the beach. They're ones fully dressed in the water. |

That is so true.
Lots of things changing on Cheju. Lots of development, some of it I like, some of it I don't, but it's their country. I like Cheju and I'm glad I don't live in Seoul anymore. |

I have been to Hawaii and I have also been to Jeju-do, and I would scarcely say that there is much to compare the two other than that they are both island locations. Jeju-do has actually been called the "Hawaii of Southeast Asia", but having been there, I find that while it was nice to visit with my wife, and we did have a tremendous time while on the island, I would simply stick to commenting on the things that make Jeju-do the nice place that it is for its own reasons and not by comparing it to other places in the world IMHO. |

Me too. If it's a Korean name I think, "Here we go again." I also tend to avoid books on Korean history written by Koreans. Too much of what is called "History" here is little better than propaganda. Having said that, Jeju-do is well worth a visit. As someone above mentioned, forget this "Hawaii of Asia" nonsense and just judge it on its own merits. There are some amazing volcanic rock formations and caves, and you're never far from the coast. There is clean air and (believe it or not) people don't drive like lunatics. They even stop at red lights.
I enjoyed my visit. |
