*NSFW*

So this is why I do not want to go back to America. I highly doubt this type of thing would ever happen in South Korea.

Well, at the end of the day, it's still New Jersey... Smile

Seriously, and undoubtedly, very disturbing footage and the perpetrator must have been clearly out of his mind beating that woman the way he did, and I hope he gets caught and does his time. And if you never want to return to America because of stuff like that, which will, without a doubt, probably never happen to you or anyone you know, enjoy your life and protect your wife.

However... keep in mind that Korea has a massive rape culture problem, so I don't think it's fair to say that these "types of things" aren't likely to occur in Korea, because they do. You might not get a concussion or be thrown down some stairs, and I'm not really trying to equate one with the other, but there is a high, or even higher chance, that you'll be sexually assaulted or raped in Korea, more than in the US. The link you provided was pure violence and I'm not a woman, but I think I'd rather get a concussion than be raped. I don't enjoy stating that or even pretending to know the difference regarding psychological effects because I haven't been raped, though I did have a concussion skiing way back when. I'm just assuming the former is a bit more traumatic.

That video is horrid, but I've heard so many bone chilling attempted rape stories from girls I've known here (often times at knife point), that I just can't accept the "I highly doubt this type of thing would ever happen in South Korea" excuse, even though it was just a burglary and there was no rape attempt. It's all sickening, and I realize I'm pretty much making a reverse apologist argument, but most countries are dangerous places for women, and, from what I've known, seen and heard, Korea is especially bad when it comes to violence directed towards women. What was that about the Korean guy in Suwon not too long ago? That was brutal stuff...

That seriously makes me sick to my stomach to watch. I just dont get how a large man would want to viciously beat a defenseless woman. I hope they catch him.

I have to say that after seeing the animated icon of J Rock, perhaps you should change the icon so people have no confusion about what you mean, Your icon shows someone coming up and kicking a sitting woman off her chair in a restaurant.

I appreciate your comment, but the icon sends double messages, just mentioning it. Thanks

The difference is that in America, my wife could defend herself with Rottweiller's and a gun.

Same crime in Korea and all the lady would have available to herself is screaming, which I'm SURE will cause the guy to stop.

That being said, I'm glad that in Korea even banks and liquor stores don't have bullet proof glass.

Yup. Home invasions and crimes never happen in Korea. Nobody has ever broken into someone's home and raped or killed the inhabitants. Ever

Wait a minute. You're afraid to live in America because of a home invasion but you're content to live in Korea where someone kidnapped, raped, and murdered a child?

Yep, perfectly logical. Rolling Eyes

Every country has problems. Try not to paint the place with a very wide brush.

You said that as if not only does it maybe not happen a LOT more in the US, but rather doesn't happen at all in the US??

Sheesh Smile

what happened last year when that woman called the police (near incheon)? i seem to remember (reading) that they said something to the effect of 'dont worry about it'. next day shed been found raped and murdered in her living room.

Incidentally, while not violent, i know of at least 4 foreigners here that have had people walk into their rooms while the door wasnt locked, and robbed the place.

its the unreported crime phenomenon.

Yeah I thought about that right after I hit the submit button. When I picked my avatar a couple years ago I thought it was so stupid that it was funny. Probably not the best choice nowadays. I should change it but i'm too lazy.

Of course violent crimes happen everywhere, but one of the biggest differences is the police. Korean police seem to be utterly useless as far as I can see.
