I have had an interview for a GEPIK position in Gwangju that offers a housing allowance. I am currently living in Bundang and would like to continue living close to this area.

I have commuted an hour in the past to get to work, so I am not really bothered about the distance, however I would like to know how easy it is to get there and back. Has anyone done this? Or would it too much of an ordeal to get there every day?

I really do not want to live in Gwangju, as it really doesn't seem to offer the kind of things I need. But working there and commuting would be okay.

Anyone with any opinions on this would be great, thanks!

(Ah, totally forgot to check the forum. If this is the wrong one, please feel free to move it mods.)

Which Gwangju? The well-known large city in Jeollanam-do or the small town that many waygukkins reading this post may never have even heard of located in Gyeonggi-do (also called "little Gwangju" by some)?

I'm guessing that it's little Gwangju, of course, but you should make that distinction so as not to confuse the many waygukkins who've only heard of big Gwangju.

You're right. I forgot about that comment.

I lived at Ori and commuted out to that area for 2 years. No problem. If you'd like a more detailed response, PM me.

Cheers.

I lived at Seohyun Station and commuted to Opo-Eup (gwangju) to work every day.

The commute wasn't bad.

About 30 minutes by car or an hour by bus when the weather was bad.

A lot of it depends on where in Gwangju you live. I live in Opo and can walk from my apartment to Seohyeon station in 75 minutes (downhill the whole way). But if you're in "downtown" Gwangju, I have never been there, but it looks like it's a fairly long distance east of here from where I am in Gwangju.

Gwangju is not that big population wise but covers a large area. Gonjiam is also Gwangju for example but quite a bit further from the city proper.
1 hour from door to door is the least you can expect I guess. Traffic can be slow as well.

There is a rail line under construction (Yeoju line) going from Imae Stn. through Gwangju all the way to Ichon but it won’t be much help now as it is planned to open in 2015 and the reality can be 1-2 years more.
