Here's what I'd do:
"Okay everyone! Sit down, please! Today we are all going to learn about ice cream..."
And I would do it in my shorts and T-shirt. |

Wouldn't that be a nice law! |
That was exactly the rule in my girls middle school about 5 years ago. The girls sitting around after lunch waiting for the VP to check the thermostat, then a huge yay! School dismissed.
Then the girls all ran down to the beach & into the sea in their uniforms. Parents & officials werent impressed, & there were liability issues. The school installed AC soon after. |
Must have impressed the boys though. |

Its not that. Its something deep in the Korean psyche that stems from a history of poverty and self-sacrifice. Probably also the tendency to power-tripping in there too.
Its no surprise to me anymore that Koreans absurdly pick the hottest day of the year to tell us that the aircon is forbidden. (while they run it endlessly at oyther times of year).
They don't seem to ever question the logic of this, but there's not much time for thoughtful reflection in the balli-balli culture. |

They looked at the cost of turning on the AC full blast with the windows open and decided that the only alternative was no AC.
Korea is a binary country, it's either 1 or 0 with nothing in between. |

Anyway, no point getting angry with your school – they’re just following instructions...
That's a good reason to get angry with anyone. |
How long have you been in Korea for?
Anyway with it now being July my P has said that we can use the AC whenever we want to after lunch...
My classroom is a little chilly at the moment - I'd better open a window |

That's funny. Way back I had worked a girls and a boys middle school. Funny thing was the girls ms classrooms all had air-conditioning and the boys ms didn't. One day I asked why, they said all the girls schools in town had their a/c installed first, but the all the boys schools had to wait for the next few years before extra funds are made available before they get a crack at a/c.
Luckily the girls school was my main school. Being in a class of all boys, just after gym, with gym clothes that haven't been washed in months, with no a/c, with a few fans in July isn't pleasant. |

| At my elem school the girls bathrooms have hot water, but the boys do not, except the one near the principal's office. |

I think that's about right. When I worked in a hogwan we could control the a/c and heat in the classrooms.
But in the public schools, forget about. They expect teachers to suffer! And the school controls the temperature and even when the schools can start using aircon - e.g.July 1 and not before.
My classroom's aircon was set at 28 C today by the school! |
