My nephew (a Canadian) wants to teach in Korea for a year. September is a good time to start, but he doesn't have his documents ready.
How long does it take to get documents ready in Canada these days? |

All documents can be prepared in a day, if he pushes himself and lives nearby the Korean consulate (if he already has his transcripts - he'll need 3 sets). |

Even the police-record check just takes a day? |

You still just need a regular police-record check, not an RCMP check? |

Walk into an RCMP detachment and they can usually get your CBC done same-day as long as there is no record found.
If there is any doubt then it takes a week-10 days to do one with prints.
Getting true copies of your degree takes an hour at a notary.
Getting everything certified at a Korean consulate takes a day.
Getting transcripts from your uni can take (depending on how much you want to pay, 1-10 days).

York regional police department does RCMP CRC in 20 minutes (there may be a queue) - I imagine it's the same in other police departments as well. I don't see why anyone would ever need to do a CRC with prints - it is unnecessary (again, perhaps in the countryside it's different and police departments in other provinces may operate somewhat differently - so I could be wrong).
Notary - once you reach the notary, it takes 10 minutes for the whole process - they ask you a few questions (out of curiosity most of the time), make printouts of your CRC/degree stamp them - you are ready to go.
After that, go to the consulate, same procedure, but there may be a queue and it could take an hour to wait for your turn, but once it's your turn, again, 10 minutes.
Getting transcripts may take a while - I agree.
It's all very simple if you are in the same city as the Korean consulate, but it can also be by far more complicated if you are living in the boonies.
Having said all that - I am surprised that this research is not done by the said nephew - one can only hope that he is competent enough to do so. |

Providing you don't share a name/DOB/ or other particulars with someone else who does have a record.
If you do share a name/other particulars (a problem I do have) then you will need to be printed and they will need time to compare your prints with the set on file to ensure that you are not the "other person".

Apparently it's a DOB and gender match. So if your gender and DOB match you might have to wait 15 weeks (that's how long I waited). |
