I was summoned to jury duty 2 weeks before my departure date to Korea. What do I do? Has anyone else had this problem? I've never been summoned so I am just worrying a lot. |

Read the summons. There are instructions on what to do. |

^this. You should be able to call in and tell them that you are currently out of the country. They may ask you to fax over some supporting evidence (contract, visa, etc.), but it should be easy enough to get out of it. |

Can't you just say you think he's guilty and disqualify yourself? Ha ha. |

I was summond while I was here. Just told them I don't live in the country anymore and it was all they needed. You could aslo include a copy of your plane ticket/itinerary. It shouldn't be a problem. |

If you are about to depart and already have a ticket booked, they should excuse you. They'll excuse people left and right. Students for example, often get excused if classes are going on at that time. The country is smart enough to understand that someone who was about to move to another country and is suddenly forced into jury and having those plans canceled, might not make the best jurist.
Or just admit to being a racist/sexist/anti-religious person. |

If you leave for Korea after the court date, I would postpone for another time, if allowed. Then when that time comes up you wont be in country so they can not make you go. You just need to remember to contact them and let them know you reside in Korea. |

I also got jury duty for the first time ever (I'm 31!) when I was still rather new here. My mother simply called, stated that I was out of the country for a job, and sent over some sort of proof she happened to have I think.
Haven't heard a word about it since. |

I was actually back in the states on vacation a few years ago when I got a summons right before I was to come back to Korea. Called them and told them my situation that I worked in Korea etc. Response I got was "well can you come back for it?" Had to slllooooowwwwllllyyyy explain that a) it would cost me $1500 to come back and if I could afford it b) my korean employer wouldn't allow it. Think they finally got it as I haven't heard from them since |
