Dear Readers:

A former teacher at my Hagwon was released 3 months ago. The director of the school decided not to renew this person's contract. Yesterday the Director of the school received a letter saying that the school "would suffer repercussions (meaning the future failure of the school)" unless an apology was made to him about his release. He also stated that he wanted all the current ESL teachers in the school fired because "they are evil" (I am one of those teachers). Needless to say, this has made me and my co-workers concerned for our safety and not sure where this may lead.

During his time working at the school, on a couple of different occassions, he displayed agressive behavior (hinging on violent outbursts). He also wrote menacing letters, because he persistently held grudges and was unforgiving of perceived insults, injuries or slights against him. He perceived attacks on his reputation that noone else saw.

Since he left the school he has either quit or been fired from 2 schools and is working at his third. His letter expressed that still believes that he should be controlling the day to day operations of our school.

If you have experienced this type of situation or know of any useful ways to deal with this. Please let us know.

Phone Immigration and file a complaint over receiving a threat. If they conclude the threat was legit, he'll simply be deported and denied a new visa in the future. Problem solved.

This character seems paranoid, unstable and downright wierd.

Personally - if you believe he(?) is for real and might be dangerous - leave the school and go work elsewhere ASAP. I know it seems extreme and is hardly fair but jobs in Korea are easy got - if you end up in hosptital or anything you will regret it.

As usual - I blame the hogwon owner for hiring a fruitcake in the first place.

Do all the teachers feel the same way about him? If so, just get everyone together and say that if he comes back, everyone will leave. I doubt the schools wants him back badly enough to lose their entire teaching staff; especially since he's a trouble-maker.

A call to the police might help. A visit by the Korean cops would probably take the fight out of the loser.

Seriously, have your director take the letter to immigrations. Also, have her contact the police so they have it on record.

On the same note, find the guy yourself -- tell him he's an idiot for what he did, and if he swings at you -- kick the living shit out of him.

My feeling, based on reading some other experiences on this board when Koreans call the cops on whitey, the cops don't really care about probable cause. They really don't mind paying a little visit and putting some stick about. Sounds like this guy needs some stick in a dark place I'd name but it would just be fucked out.
