Thanks, tob555. I've called Immi helpline a couple of time over the last few days and both operators have informed me that.
Topik 2 is needed (it's not a speaking test in the office).
Married people are exempt from this.
At least 30 million in bank/housing assets is also needed.
An apostilled CRC is required.
All the above apply to F5 visas... |
You mean then that it's only if a non married foriegner tries to become a permanent resident then? This whole post seems to be creating confusion. If you marry, you don't need this then? |

It seems like if you are married and can show that it's a 'legit' marriage then you might not have to show TOPIK 2. If you are applying for the F5 visa after a divorce or death of spouse then you almost definitely will.
This is according to 2 helpline officials I spoke to. Are there any other 'types' of F5 applicants who wouldn't have already shown a good level of Korean?
Not sure what the case is with regards to F2/F6 applicants. However, it seems pretty sure that an apostilled CRC is needed... |

I would think the reason they mentioned being married is about the fact that most foreigners married to Korean nationals would ALREADY be on an F-visa via the marriage visa (old F2 - new F6) That is why they do not need to show the TOPIK 2 score. This new regulation is for new applicants for the F-visa. Currently the guidelines do not include such requirements for F5 applicants, but that will most likely change too once they work out the kinks in the regulation. Ovbiously, nothing is set in a permanent way right now, so anything we discuss would only be guess work. |

The Ministry of Justice said Thursday it will require foreign spouses to take a Korean language test for a marriage visa beginning next year.
In addition, Korean spouses will have to have a given income level in order to be eligible for marriage to a foreigner.
A ministry official told The Korea Times that the minimum per-month level is set at 1.1 million. |
I found the article from the other thread. |

I knew I had seen the "intereview things mentioned somewhere, and it was in this article where they mention a face to face interview to determine the communication skills of the foreign applicants. So the TOPIK test is currently what they require, but that is going to change when this new part of the regulation goes into effect at the beginning of next year. |

The article talks about migrant wives. It doesn't mention English teachers. I had seen somewhere's else on here that the partners had to be able to communicate in a language. So, I'd be very surprised if this applies to us. Maybe when you get your F5? But maybe that pertains to getting via the point system isntead of marriage? Not sure. |

|

Ok, I clear everything up for you people regarding the F5 Visa.
YOU NOW NEED TO DO A LANGUAGE TEST! Busan immigration actually came out to interview me and my wife at our place of business.
Everything was fine until he tested my Korean Language skills, which are basic.
Married or not, they will test you. The days when after two years you would get it are well and truly over.
I was turned down today for an F5. Without bragging we have more than enough money and live in the best part of Busan.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has got an F5, in the last few months, without having your Korean Language skills tested. |

Soo what happens after they turned down your f5 ? Your obviously applying for it because your current visa is about to expire... They just gave you an f6 visa extension instead ?? |

Yup, that happened to me. Renewed the F6 for 2 more years after the F5 was rejected. |

All I have to do is renew the F2! No Problem! The next thing I have to do is learn basic Korean, ie, What's your name? etc Personal information.
This is fine for now but they are going to standardize the test which is going to be alot more difficult in the future. I think we've got about a year left before this happens.
Therefore, I'll study for 3 to 6 months and apply again.
Hope this helps you out. |
