Are we allowed 2 phone numbers? Anyone done this successfully? Did it have to be done at 2 different carriers?
I want to get a Galaxy Note 10.1 .. or if that fails a galaxy tab 10.1 (no phone) |

| Depends what kind of visa you have. But I think even on a E2 visa, you could go around and open one line on each carrier. |

Do you mind if I ask which F visa you are? I have a friend who is also an F visa series but F-4 (like me) and he has a couple phone numbers lol  |

I got 2 numbers when I was on an E2.
I kept 2 numbers when I changed to E7.
I have had no issues over it.
They are with different providers.

dont trust ttompatz! lol JK.
I did think of this too but I was also wondering if they checked other networks to see if foreigners had more than one phone for any reason. Makes good sense considering that a lot of phone stores just want to bring in customers to make commission which is similar to stores in the USA when i worked for cingular and t-mobile lol |

| Had a friend on a F5 told by SK telecom he could only have 1 number. They said Koreans can have only one number too. I'd guess it is a big brother thing. |

Welcome to Korea, when people don't know rules they make them up.
Even a foreigner can have up to 5 phonelines, however most carriers have policies against this so you would need to spread them around, if you are the account holder for your children or partner. The child or partners name is registered as the user but you are responsible for paying the account.
The other issue is phones on installment plans. Most foreigners are limited to one like E2s. Some can't have one. F visas and possibly some D visas can have 2. This is actually Seoul Guarantee Insurance Company, as for some inexplicable reason carriers don't self-insure for defaults.
If someone says no, go to another phone shop. |

Wow fella you a little jaded at others? I guess then when I asked if I could have multiple phones in MY NAME on friday for me to use for a personal business (curiosity of course), the phone guy was lying when he said that I could? lol
OP ask them and see if they can do it at the store. The store I went had no problem with me (although again I am an F visa) but it should be relatively painless if you want it. |

You can have more than 2 phone numbers, I have 4. But only 2 phones can go on a plan, per provider. |

I'm on a D-8 visa and was denied when trying to buy a 4G tablet from my phone carrier (SK). So, at least some shops/carriers do not allow foreigners to have two phone numbers. This was late last year. Thinking back, I think they told me it would have been allowed if my visa was for more than one year.
I bought the tablet under my wife's name. |

Thanks everyone for the replies.
A friend of mine has a friend who runs one of the millions of little mobile shops so we consulted him. He knew that I already had a line and so he specifically mentioned KT as a carrier that would allow me to have the second line. I got the vibe though that it was all a little discretionary and nothing really set in stone.
As it turns out though, another issue is the installment plan limits as mentioned above.
You can only have one device currently on an installment plan (where you get the device for free up front and are paying the device cost back monthly). So, he said I could pay off the remainder of my current phone and start a new monthly installment for the tablet (Galaxy Note 10.1). I decided I will just buy the Note 10.1 upfront tomorrow, with support for LTE/4g, but only use WiFi for now. I didn't actually want another phone number anyhow, I just wanted the device, so I will buy it upfront with the option to add phone/data support whenever I want to.
