How many times did you see a foreign bad guy that didn't talk like Hannibal lecter?
Im not arsed btw and neither are most brits from what I can tell, maybe thats why it happens?

political correctness gone mad, you cant even take the michael out of the Chinese anymore...

Oh please, England is the most PC country on the face of this earth. Look at your overrun country with Islamic terrorists apologists going around lopping people's heads off and you just open your border up to the rest of them. All in the name of not offending.

It's Benny Hill circa 1980. Not very funny any more. Not because it's particularly offensive. Just because it's old hat.

90% of black comedians are still making fun of white people--not much of an "old hat" to them?

Ridiculous. In general, Brits make fun of/whine about Americans WAY more than the vice-versa. Are you serious with this? Is this your first time on these boards, or have you not been to a bar in your adult life?

sorry to burst your bubble, but we love you. We craft every aspect of our modern culture on yours, we watch the same tv, eat the same food and ive even heard brits talking with a general north american accent. It would seem we cant get enough of you.

Maybe what you experienced is pent up aggression based on rejection and jealousy?

hmm, how would you close a border to a religion? Last time i checked, i wasn't asked that on my passport application. I didnt personally open anything, I was in Korea when this happened.

Theres a whole thread dedicated to this topc if youre interested in discussing it?
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=228093&start=45

however, you may be disapointed to find out most people will disagree with your appraisal that it was a terrorist act.

What's amusing is the British and Australians love to attack America and Americans in conversation but they are the American's biggest allies and get involved in all the US's ModEdit around the world.

Even Canadian Government isn't that tied up with the US war machine like the UK and Australia are.

Firstly, Brits and Aussies dont love to attack America we just like to mock and we like a bit of banter. Something a few over sensitive Americans fail to grasp.

As for the alliance considering how much benefits it gives us in terms of the R&D we could never afford ourselves, the support in maintaining and developing a nuclear deterrent, access to US military logistics etc we would be mad not to be enthusiastic supporters of the US.

Diplomatically there are even more benefits, the only reason we still have that UN security council vote is because the US likes a guaranteed friend.

All the savings we make on stuff like that can go into other areas like free healthcare and houses for single mothers. It does make you think though, can you imagine how much money the US could spend on its own people if they were not propping up other countries global defence requirements.

Attack - mock, just semantics.

All I was hoping for was to show the alliance is very strong, even by their constitutions, to support and alley with the U.S. That's impressive.

But there are also consequences for that.

I think it's great that other countries don't buy in to the American way of political correctness. Can't say this, can't say that, oh we don't want to offend anyone by saying the wrong thing.

It's pure comedy. That's what gives us the greatest pleasure. I wish they'd do it more.

I don't mean to direct this only at you Died By Bear, but I always wonder when people dismiss something as being "politically correct", what it is they are trying to say. Is it that those who take offense do not have a valid point?Or that they do have a valid point but are being unreasonable, extreme, and maybe even phony about it?

To paraphrase the article linked below, "Are people right to be offended, or are they being unreasonable? We can ask the question as directly as that and never have to employ the dismissive and code-packed "political correctness."

"......objection then is that the phrase "political correctness" is unto itself a judgment of the validity of a complaint. It's the frame through which people who'd rather not think about what they're saying dismiss those who believe that people should be responsible for the impact of their words.

Sector, I think that the phrase "impact" of their words is key. What exactly is the impact? Seriously. Ten minutes of irritation?

I am sorry I wasn't clear. In the article you quoted it said that people didn't want to be responsible for the impact of their words. My response was that the impact wasn't all that great, so what is the fuss about?

Ok I thought that was what you were referring to but I am still not sure I follow what you mean, or how to respond. Are you talking about a specific case where the impact wasn't that great, or making a blanket statement that the impact is never anything to make a fuss about?

I am saying that comedy based on off color humor should not lead to the sort of mental gymnastics that PC speech codes intend.

Well if I find him offensive it is my choice whether or not to buy a ticket to his show, and I can also refuse to watch the video.

And if enough people find him offensive, a sponsor could choose to drop him as an endorser of their product. Another very tangible impact of his words.
