does anyone actually own one? is it comfortable?
i need to buy a temporary bed for a friend who will be staying with us for a few months. the other short-term solutions ive considered include a "samdanyo" (sp?), that cotton-stuffed floor mat that folds up in three parts; a traditional "yo"; and even a sleeping bag!
the samdanyo seem too expensive. they start at 50,000 won, which is cheap, but they are all incredibly flimsy. an honest merchant told me they wouldnt keep their form for more than a month, even at the higher end. the traditional yo and sleeping bag are out as my friend refuses to sleep that close to the floor.
the raku raku starts at 160,000 won. if it ends up being decent, my husband and i may keep it around as a guest bed, but otherwise, whatever we end up with is getting tossed.
thoughts? suggestions? |

You can buy a bed with frame and mattress on Gmarket for 200,000. I bought one when a friend came to stay for a month at the beginning of the year. It may have been less than 200,000 actually. It was a bit firm, so I did end up buying a mattress topper from emart for 50,000. However, to each their own. |

thanks for your input! however, i shouldve mentioned that i wasnt in the market for a "real" bed with a frame, no matter how cheap - we dont have that much permanent space in our abode and my friend is using korea/our home as a base while he does his asia-tour thing (hes in a band). so while hes gone, wed prefer it to be rolled up/away.
another thing: disposing of a bed with a frame would end up costing more than the bed itself. i recently bought a mirror at daiso for 5,000 won, which cracked, and had to pay 2,000 won to trash it.
anyone else? |

Can always do a futon. I would imagine much more comfortable than a raku-raku. Does take up a little more space, but can use it as an extra sitting area. |

How about an air mattress + sleeping bag?
The yos are not that bad. I used one when I had my parents stay over. A thick one with some blankets on top will be fine. |

I don't know where my post went, but I had one and it was very hard and uncomfortable. Adding an extra pad helped some. |

So you're offering a place to sleep for your friend, and they're refusing to make it easy on you guys by sleeping on a yo?
Damn, sounds like an ungrateful scumbag if I ever heard one.. |

Really? Maybe if you're in your early 20s sleeping on the floor is ok. But, I assure you, at my age (not much older than that ), if I went to stay with some of my best friends and they offered to let me sleep on a mat on the floor, I would tell them politely to go to hell. LOL
That's not really acceptable past a certain age. |

seriously.
my husband and i are from europe/usa. our friend is from finland. we are very open-minded.
sleeping on a plastic-vinyl floor on a yo in korea is incredibly uncomfortable. its also more ghetto than sleeping on a mattress sans box-spring on carpet in an american apartment. i speak from experience.
were not starving undergrads in our 20s. |
