A buddy of mine got in with the JET program and got sent to some super tiny fishing village way up north famous for lacquerware or some crap like that. He said there was only one other foreigner, some girl who he said he was basically forced to date out of a lack of options. He kept a blog so I'd check it out every now and then... it looked like a sad year or two.

Post JET....find another job in Japan. Once you're there it's easier. You can job-hunt and face-time before your visa expires.

Or go somewhere else like Hong Kong. Not Korea. It's a disappointment, unless you're a young dude who likes to drink / pick up girls / socialize. That's really the only up-side situation for the foreigner. Or get rid of serious debt fast.

Yeah, those two reasons are all I can seriously consider about Korea.

Have fun in Japan! Wink

Korea ain't that filthy. But if you compare it to Japan it is quite messy, but I would not use the word filthy to describe it. It's more chaotic with its garbage. Kind of like what you'd see after the county fair rolled through town.

Jet would give you enough surplus cash, free time, and resources to fly home and get everything done and still have way more than enough cash left over for setting up back in korea. Dont sweat it. Go with JET and if you find its not for you, sometime around january get your fbi criminal check done (easy enough from japan just takes a while), then get the docs apostilled (send to a mate or one of the companies that do it all for you), then bish bosh, off to korea. Jet is awesome. Youll never feel so mollycoddled and looked after in all your life.

op, don't listen to the people who say stupid things like scorpion and other haters. those types of posters inexplicably love to post on this board yet live and work in korea and hate it. why someone would live in a country they despise so much makes no sense what-so-ever and would fall into the category of complete ridiculousness. Rolling Eyes

anyways the point is you will never know until you come here and find out for yourself. i for one enjoy japan but i enjoy korea more. just my personal preference.

I have visited Japan no fewer than nine times over the years. I know of what I speak. But if the OP wants to take advice on Korea from a guy called "wishfulthinking" he is free to do so. But to pretend that, when compared to Japan, Korea is not a filthy country is...how did you put it again.... oh yeah, now I remember, ..."complete ridiculousness."

OP, Ignore the apologists on this forum, especially ones with user names like wishfulthinking.

But he is right about one thing. Come to Korea and see for yourself. Very Happy

did i say anything about the cleanliness of japan? (hint, i've been more than you and i know how clean and nice it is)

nope.

am i an apologist? (dumbest term ever by the way)

nope.

is it stupid and nonsensical to tie my username to anything besides me wishing people like you were smarter?

yep.

try again champ. fail all over the place.

Staying in Korea if you don't like it is dumb. Why do it?

Also OP if anyone uses the term 'apologist' ignore everything they have to say because it's the biggest indicator that they are unadulterated racists.
