That's probably more likely to be about what side the sun was shining on. |
I guess the middle ground between bashers and apologists is that "She didn't sit next to you because she was racist, it was because she's a typical looks-obsessed Korean girl who would sob if she got slightly tan."
I think I can sign onto that compromise statement. |

Kind of strange to "Like" a video like that.

Kind of strange to have a video posted on Facebook, instead of youtube. |

And so, in the spirit of land-of-the-morning-one-up-man-ship, further conversations with koreans may go like this;
did you see the news about the korean pilot who crashed the plane?
well, did you see the fb video about those foreigners who harassed that poor girl?
well, did you see the news article about the 19 year old boy who raped and cut up a 17 y.o. girl?

Sounds like a hand of Big Two! |

Makes 'fancy a bum' guy seem pretty innocent by comparison .. And look at the ***storm that erupted on the Knet from that.
I'd be very surprised if it didn't become the target of Korean netizens' wrath.. Even if its mostly ignored by the national media..
In which case I'd be very very scared if I were those guys.. And getting straight on a plane back home would seem like an extremely sensible move.. |

For those of you going out this weekend to meet girls ...
Be aware and be careful. Things will be different. |

just on a side note, I watched that video again last night and wondered, where were her friends when this was going on?
When I was younger, Id only get messed up if my mates were with me who I trusted. If anyone got into a state, the unwritten rule was that we'd take care of each other.... |
She's a bargirl from a hostess bar. Seems pretty obvious. Partly why she's getting attacked by netizens.
Hot women do not usually go out alone, or get absolutely hammered, especially if alone with guys. That is the job of hostesses only.
Hence the overriding dynamic at play in the vid is the foreign guys assumption that she is there to serve them and thus can be abused to some extent. She's expected to be entertainment.

Still the question stands- Are videos like this normal back home to the point where it wouldn't be an issue of concern?
After the Steubenville case there has been a lot of publicity given to pictures taken of wasted girls and people doing things to them while they are drunk, and then posting it on the internet, and lots of feminist columnists are talking about a "culture of rape".
A video like this might certainly play into that narrative and make sites like Salon.com and the HuffPo. |
Why does that question still stand? It doesn't sound relevant to me. There are ESL teachers here from more than one english speaking country, and the teachers in the video might not even be from the USA. So why do we need to make this a discussion about the USA? |
I'm not from England or Australia, so I wouldn't know what makes it onto the news over there.
I do know that something like this might get thrown into the news cycle back home.
Not so much for the namecalling and photographing, but the whole jamming a finger up the girls nose and then shoving it in her mouth is something that makes this more than just a normal drunken idiocy movie. Then you toss in the ethnically-charged commentary, and yeah, likely HuffPo material at the least back home (assuming it was in English).
And anyone who says it isn't that bad, if some dude shoved his finger into your nostril and then shoved his finger into your mouth, that would warrant a serious throw down. |
Well not to mention on the full version at around :40-:45 the guy cops and feel when she is leaned over and raises back up. |

In the first few seconds of the facebook video, it looks like she puts her hand on the guy's crotch. I'm guessing this was some type of pay for play place. |

..Which means she is unlikely to make a complaint.
This is all over the net now. With the usual predictable comments.

Typical behavior of foreign men, especially white men or american or european backgrounds, who treat korean women like trash. But also korea has become a very materialistic society that so many girls have turned to sex and other sex industry for cheap money and jobs. BOTH need fixing.

| I logged in to share the full video, but saw it was already posted. Instead of leaving without saying something, I thought I would instead make my first post in about 4 years. |

The comment is in English which makes me wonder if it was posted by some bitter gyopo who doesn't even live here and is a member of some site like Korean Sentry. I'm more concerned about what gets posted in Korean. |

That story is over. He already turned himself in. Said he copied what he saw in movies. |
Oh yeah, the girl that was dismembered, that story is old news. Nothing to see there. Let's talk about some drunken guys humiliating a girl in a bar.
As a viral video the foreign guys harassing that girl is awful, but it should be an embarrassment to Korea that it's national news. |
There was a tv interview from a Korean sociologist talking about the societal problems that could have contributed to that psychopath's development. Her main point was that education focuses mainly on Test prep, and there's no place for kids to talk about what they're feeling in front of other people, so they go to social network sites to do that. We saw that in how the killer bragged about the murder afterwards. If he hadn't been told to shut up and study every day of his adolescence, then he could have been identified as troubled and a possible danger to others earlier in life.
But then the interview ended be it was on to the next topic... |
