I've met a few....

Dr. Surin Pitsuwan (2011)
Roh Moo-hyun (2003)
Dr. Stephen Krashen (2004)

Not sure if they are famous among other expats though.

Krashen should be amongst the readers of this board - or I would have thought.

He should be "known of" if not "known" amongst those who are career EFL / TESOL types. He was really active about 10 years ago but I have seen/read a lot of his stuff dating back as far as 1983.

My guess is that your average EFL teacher in Korea would have no clue.

You'd have to be a long timer in Korea to know Roh Moo-hyun (since he is now deceased (2009)).

Surin is still among the active although he is not head of ASEAN any more. I have met him a few times at various conferences (ASEAN, AELF, SEAMEO, ICET-Bangkok).

Damn, that is a pity if that is really the case. A reason why I will always applaud more stringent requirements for teaching jobs. Very Happy

I met the guy Sam Hammington about 2 years ago at a random get together in Itaewon. I had no idea who he was then.

Then my girlfriend went through my photos early this year on Facebook and said, "oh you met Sam Hammington?" I was like who? And she showed me the picture.

Still had no idea who he was until I started watching more tv in order to learn Korean, and when I saw him I said to myself "Ohhhhhh that's the guy she was talking about."
