I saw it for 2 reasons- Ron Perlman and 85 on "Rotten Tomatoes"

It's well worth your time with some great characters, like the scientists.

Yeah, I said something positive about a movie. Time for someone to flame. See this movie and you'll be a believer. Or save your money for Hancock, 2.

It was decent. Just don't expect some great acting from all the characters. Still fun though.

Hmmm... for those of you who have seen it and say it's worth watching, what was your opinion about Transformers and Prometheus?

I'm hearing good things from people I trust, so I expect I'll see it this week sometime. I'll go ahead and offer my opinion on those two films, Mr. goat, tho I haven't seen pacific rim yet - Prometheus - standard fare, impressive visuals, got a little bit of an unfair rap b/c of Alien/Aliens comparisons; Transformers - garbage.

it was decent but nothing spectacular. the only good thing about it was that i like the person who plays "Charlie" on "Its always sunny in philadelphia" so his parts made me laugh. The acting is well umm rather novice almost like the characters forced what they were saying.

Prometheus was dumb in my opinion. I didnt really enjoy it at all so yeah.

Transformers 1/2/3 was just explosions and robots. So far from what it should have been. Keep in mind it made billions of dollars but still sad at that. I do know the 4th one coming out will have Mark Wahlberg KELSEY GRAMMER? (WTF?) and some famous dude from china. blah....

I saw the movie yesterday and if you have only one chance in your life to spend the money on a 4DX show, THIS should be the movie!

Keep your mouth closed when they're in or near water. Choose your pre-show meal wisely. Don't balance your popcorn on your knees and keep the lid of your soda cup closed at all times. I was not impressed by 4DX until this movie.

This is NOT a movie to watch "once it's out on Pirate Bay" unless you have a 100'' home theatre at home. Do you ride a rollercoaster or do you prefer to watch rollercoaster videos on YouTube?

Don't waste money bringing your girl to this film. Use your savings for a 4DX show.

For calibration, I consider Prometheus as the biggest disappointment in my movie viewing life and Transformers 1, 2 and 3 - entertaining but mindless fun which is filmed too fast to really enjoy. Pacific Rim has a staeady camera and gives you plenty of time to enjoy the CGI before the next cut. Also, great score and at least one great Easter Egg for the dedicated computer gamer.

Apparently there was a scene in or after the end credits which I missed, so I might watch it again but not right away.

"Atlantic Rim" is already here for download, I'll have a laugh and see what you can do with only 5% of the budget.

So high quality visuals... what about the story, pacing, and acting?

If you have ever seen Evangelion then that's pretty much what this is... just bastardized. The whole thing feels like someone read a summary of Eva and then wrote a screen play in a day. Not the most original thing ever. Lots of technical problems and holes ... All together not very interesting or complex characters. It is however visually quite good.

If you like giant robots fighting and explosions and don't care at all about interesting and complex plot lines... then you'll like the movie.

The lady and I saw it in 2D, but had a blast. In our opinions, it was the best summer movie so far. It's more or less totally brainless, but in a very, very fun way. The visuals were great, the monsters were cool, the humor was good when it needed to be, and the story was, overall, solid. It's definitely a love letter to anime, Godzilla, and monster movies. Transformers is far from a masterpiece, but the first one was a fun summer movie, and Pacific Rim hit similar notes but did it better. For reference, I thought Prometheus was outright terrible by about 40% through the movie.

The only thing that bothered me about Pacific Rim was Rinko Kikuchi's acting. For someone who got an Oscar nomination for Babel, she was just terrible as the love interest with the stereotypical issues of honor and duty conflicting with 'what her heart truly wanted'. It was rather painful to watch.

But otherwise, it was a lot of fun, and well worth watching on the big screen.

I was looking forward to this movie but was rather disappointed. The acting was woeful. Pacific Rim was corny, melodramatic and sometimes just plain stupid. Sorry! Bring on Elysium!

Totally agree with your comments on Prometheus and Transformers.

Having seen Pacific Rim, I'd say it's an incredibly stupid premise but it was pretty fun, more or less exactly what I expected. I smoked a lot beforehand though. It's a bit better if you put it in the context of being kind of a Godzilla film.

It was a "leave your brain at the door" kind of movie. Quickly forgotten after watching it but entertaining to see.

A true mindless summer blockbuster: all visuals & effects and nothing more.
