I have been in Korea for a few years and just stayed at the same school for a few years until the owner decided to close it on a whim. I found a new job right away and did a visa transfer. Last year when I renewed I submitted the background check and the notarized degree. This year when I renewed I was not asked to submit any new documents. At my new school, I am being asked to provide a background check that could take 6-7 months as the waiting time is now 22 weeks plus the time to get it notarized and such for the education office. I gave the school copies of my outdated notarized degree and background check that I submitted last year. However, the school is asking me to get a current background check. I am a bit confused at the moment as to what is going on and if I am at risk of losing my job. I mean if my notarized degree was outdated, shouldn't they want a new copy of that? Thanks for any help anyone can provide^^ |

If it is for the school then they can ask for what they ask for as a condition of employment.
If it is for the MOE AND you have not been out of Korea for more than 90 days then a copy of the ones on file with immigration (assuming you were on an E2) along with their letter of certification for the documents will suffice (they may ask you to provide a Korean CBC -which is kink of stupid since immigration is a part of the ministry of justice - but it is their prerogative).

It probably does not help the situation that the school does not always know the proper procedure. They maybe asking for ORIGINALS but in many cases for E2 visa holders a copy from immigration should be fine.
Also ttompatz. What is the "letter of registration"? In the above thread I went o immigration and got the CRC and Degree copies but could not make them understand on the "letter of certification". I ended up just getting a "Certificate of Alien Registration", plus the two copies where stamped by the office. |
