|
|
I recently found out about a Korean American guy who's brought his love for American BBQ here to Korea. He creates pop-up restaurants around Seoul to share his passion for his craft and of course, his delicious food. His next pop-up is this Saturday in Itaewon at WayofSeeing where he'll be serving pulled pork and beef brisket. If you're a fan of delicious American BBQ I highly recommend you check it out.
You can find more info and directions on his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/LinusBbq |

Badass. Hope it's good. Wasn't a big fan of that Beale street place and the pulled pork biscuit I paid like $8 for. Owner was super friendly though. |

I am no pulled pork aficionado but it is good. Guy puts a lot of effort into it, he just came back from a big trip to the US to refine his skillz.

Been curious about Beale Street but the price range has successfully manage to drive me away thus far. |

Neither am I with the pulled pork, it takes a backseat in the BBQ world I grew up around. I'm very curious about the brisket, though. I'd buy pounds of it if it's good. And, yeah, Beale street... I got iced there by some girl who seemed to really enjoy drinking super expensive imported beer with remarkable rapidity. The owner was extremely friendly, seemed like a real quality human, so I don't want to trash the place; and the PP sandwich wasn't bad, just small. I've been meaning to go back and try the ribs. Does this Linus guy set up all day or how does his operation work? |

I believe he plies his wares from 5-10, whatever specials he has won't last the whole time so you might want to get there early for the beef. |

I'm a friend of Linus, so I'm biased, but his meat and sandwiches are damned good. Every single event he does gets sold out quickly. Go early. |

By "quickly" you mean less than 1 hour? 10 minutes? |

And where is WayofSeeing? I've never heard of that place even though I live in the hood. |

Same, it is roughly halfway between Itaewon and Hangangjin stations. The FB page gives directions. I think Linus might be picking more obscure locations that don't normally draw a crowd because he knows he will be drawing one.

I went to the one before last, I think I got there around 6 or 6:30. The beef was almost sold out but there was still pulled pork. How much was left, I have no idea. |

Does he accept orders? I'm not talking about the event, just ordering online or on a website. |

he charges 10,000 won for an average sized (hamburger bun) pulled pork with a little coleslaw and baked beans on the side. I've tried it on three separate occasions. It's not bad at all, but a bit steep for the price. I'm still hungry afterwards. |

I have come to the conclusion that if I want a pulled pork sammie the way I like, then I should make it myself. The wife buys a boston butt (pork shoulder) and I just slow cook the hell out of it in the crockpot. I make my own cole slaw and eastern NC vinegar/brown sugar/crushed red pepper based sauce. It's delightful. |

Sounds like a winner. Plus there are probably some good recipes on youtube. I'd rather not take a chance on someone who may or may not run out before I get there. |

I think the one thing I've been craving the most while here in the army is Lexington style pulled pork. I even dream about it. Seriously. |

Yeah, the Lexington bbq is one of the wholy grails of pulled pork. I prefer the eastern NC sauce, but I'd never pass on Lexington bbq just because of the sauce (it's actually not too terribly different). It is an experience to cherish-and dream about. |
