I plan to start volunteering soon.

I'm looking to volunteer to teach or some other way
that involves helping others.

Do I just show up or does immigration need to know about it?

I'm on an E-2.

Suggestions on places to volunteer are also appreciated.

Thanks!

Just go. Immi would not want to arrest a do-gooder. If you're in western Seoul I can recommend a boy's orphanage where I used to volunteer. Ditto for Yongin area, where I currently do some Sunday teaching.

^Right. A few years back, Busan's Immigration office had a Q&A at the Canadian Consulate. I took the opportunity to ask the Immigration office chief about volunteering and if there were anything required. The chief said, "As long as you do not receive money for the work, it is fine."

This being Dav'es ESL Cafe, of course, someone's going to post how deluded/incorrect/impossible/threat to their livelihood that is, but I feel safe in going with the Immigratin Chief's take on the matter.

I'll be coming to Seoul soon and I was interested in maybe doing some volunteer work like this. I think I would really enjoy visiting an orphanage... something simple and fun like singing English songs with the children, teaching about animals and animal sounds and helping with feeding or something. I'm not sure if I have enough posts to PM yet, but please feel free to send me some information if you know of any volunteer opportunities!

I might also be open to doing things other than orphanage work, but that was where I was originally thinking of volunteering at.
