I was offered a position to teach at Eunhye Elementary School. it is a private school in western Seoul. I never visited the school or any of the teachers. I did a search on ESL cafe and the internet and came up with nothing. Does anyone know anything about Eunhye Elementary School?

I would also like to know something about this school, either from a former employee or current employee. Please PM me ASAP, they seem in a bit of a rush to get me to sign....but that's not always a bona fide red flag. The pay is not so great, but they seem to be located in my neighborhood, which would be a welcome change from the two hour commute (there and back total) commute I've been enduring for the last year. I really hate spending so much time on the subway, but you know what they say about the devil you know...I'm not ready to trade the frying pan for the fire just yet.

It hasn't really been clarified as to whether this is a true private elementary school or if it's a hagwon. Naturally I still have a few questions.

After reading their contract, I suppose anyone foolish enough to sign it is probably too cowed to say anything about their school. Way to support your fellow expats, guys...very lame.

Sorry for getting back to you late, I almost never come to this site.

Read the contract carefully. I'd never sign a contract again without taking it home overnight to look it over carefully. It can't be said plainly enough: PEOPLE WHO WANT YOU TO SIGN IN A HURRY ARE USUALLY THE SORT THAT EMPLOYER THAT PEOPLE QUIT WITHOUT WARNING. Teachers have much more leverage than you'd think, so if something in your contract looks suspect...sometimes you can get dropped. Other things...well, let's just say some clauses are a sure sign you should not consider spending another minute in negotiations with some schools.

Take it home, meet with a friend or acquaintance that's been here a while and have them look it over. Honestly it was a year or two since I spoke to them but I don't remember exactly what I saw in their contract...it might have been one penalty clause after another...if I'm remembering correctly. Some old hands who frequent this site will generously look over a contract for you, just so you can avoid taking the same lumps experienced teachers have. Good luck to you.

There must be a sticky about "red flags" in contracts on this site somewheres. If there ain't...there should be.

I swear it's been less than six months since I've seen this place advertising for a teacher. What's going on??? A private school should be a well-paying coveted position...why do both of those elements seem to be missing from this? Anyone know anything?

A private school may have more than one NET. Different starting dates?

I saw this thread and I created a username specifically so that I could answer this. I just finished working at Eunhye. I was there for a year and a half. The job is great. It's a rich school, so the kids can definitely be a little stuck up, but it's nothing you can't handle. As far as the work environment goes, it's very chill. As long as you show up and take care of your stuff, you're fine. The bosses are all very easy going.

I noticed that people were speculating about the frequent job postings. When I started in the spring of 2012, they hired me and two other teachers. The three of us were supposed to stay for a year, but one of the other two teachers was a drunk and missed classes. He got fired and they had to get a new teacher for the second semester. After the second semester, the teacher who finished his year contract left and the teacher who replaced the bad teacher left, as he had only been hired to fill in for 1 semester. I signed on for 1 more semester only. They hire two new teachers and the three of us have just recently finished the spring semester. Now, they have just hired someone to replace me. I don't know if he's there for a semester or a full year.

Anyway, sorry for the long explanation. I was very satisfied with my time at Eunhye and I don't want to see it get a bad reputation for no reason. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
