That would still leave the issue of men behaving like disgusting pigs towards a woman (regardless of her race or ethnicity). Thats funny?

There is no "issue". Except wether the maker of the vid actually lives on planet earth.

Have you ever seen a gang of thugs targetting a woman because of the state of her teeth?

at least agree on, that it was a pretty sh*t piece of film-making?

Why pay foreigners to act in it though? It makes no sense.

If the aim was innocent- to highlight a prejudice people have against those with bad teeth (is this even an issue in Korea?)- then, why didn't he just hire korean actors?

Not what I'm going for there. I find it odd that you missed that.

If it was a fake, studios should hire the white dude in the video. Great acting by a foreigner in Korea in a long time.

"If"? Dude, it's fake. Five people have now come forward now to say it was staged. Is that not enough for you? And this was in the Washington Post (one of the most respected newspapers in the world):
Quote:
A Korean man who says he was involved in the video’s production agreed to send me two alternate takes of the controversial scene, on the condition that I not reveal his name or post the videos. Both videos include the same three people, in the same setting, repeating roughly the same dialogue — right up to the moment that the Korean woman breaks away from the men and rushes off.

I don't think the video was fake and I do not believe this report.

I could be wrong, but I would bet against it if i had to.

Just my opinion though.

Let's bet some money then.

(Why would a Washington Post reporter lie about receiving alternate takes of the video? And why do you believe so strongly that it is real? Because it looks real? It was shot by drunk people holding an iPhone. One was Canadian and the other was Irish and then it was posted online under the title "Yankees in a club abusing a Korean girl".)

The reason why I think the film is real is mostly because of the girl. I think that is a real Korean "Bar" Girl - not an actor. I don't think anyone can improv her takes. Her make-up-face-hair-response-confusion-eyes-emotion - yes, seems too real. I could be wrong though. Just my opinion.

The other reason is the 2 guys. I know guys out there with that kinda anger and disrespect in them to behave just like that when drunk and in the right atmosphere at the right time.

Why would the Washington Post report otherwise? I don't know.

Where would this original Washington Post report be located?

I'm just going from what's come from this thread.

Almost certainly the girl's English skills aren't good, hence her confused reaction. She probably wasn't fully aware of what she would be acting in (and maybe each take was a bit different). Maybe- like the guys- she got duped into being in this (after a few drinks) and maybe had second thoughts once the film was rolling (which would explain her disgusted look and emotion).

The offer to bet money- any amount- is still on the table. Send me a PM.

(PS- The link you seek was posted earlier in this thread.)

"Does anyone still care about this other than on Daves and a few foreigner blogs?"

Yeah, actually. This is only from the other day:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB4aA4eO8wY&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL6A40AB04892E2A1F

Over 2 million views. And his account is highly inaccurate, which is great.

The video made it into the major Korean media, by the way, including the Chosun Ilbo and Hankyoreh.

It has now been almost certainly seen tens of millions of times. And most of those probably think it is real.

But this guy has almost 10mil subscribers. He probably gets a ton of views on every video he makes.

So...? It is still another few million people being misled.

The point is a lot of people do care. That's what you asked about.

I agree with those who say expats can be clueless about what is going on around them in Korea, but this is not one of those times.

This video has been big news -- in and out of Korea.

Ah, but PatrickBusan watches news 24/7 and reads every major Korean newspaper and he hasn't seen/heard anything about this video in the Korean media! Also, he has spoken to his friends in Korea (and he has millions of those!) and they haven't heard one word about this video. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!^^

(OK, I'm heading back to the basement to put on my patrickbusan awarded tinfoil hat)

Are you really implying that because the guy has a massive audience the videos he posts should be negligible? It's like you are putting up evidence that counters the argument you are presenting and hoping that nobody notices.

The video itself isn't really the story, it's the way every one or two months I have been here some stupidity like this is forced on me. I get tired of meeting grown, college educated, and gainfully employed Korean people that want to discuss this kind of trash with me. It never ceases to amaze me the way this stuff gets brought up with a straight face, and how I have to explain and justify my intentions for coming here.

A lot of women - and korean women- are naturally pretty good actors. You only have to date one to know that. Laughing

But the way she drunkenly nods and even appears to go in for a kiss ilooks very convincing.
Also spinning round with fingers drawn is a funny touch. In reality any K-woman would be slapping, shouting or walking away at that point, unless she was a bargirl paid to take a certain level of abuse (which I initially assumed she was).

My guess is she's a drama student with genuine acting skills. She might even get her big break off this video, who knows^!

The Korea Herald has proven it's a fake but the damage has been done. People have seen this all around the world. Whoever uploaded it to Facebook has greatly pleased those who hate foreigners in Korea.

It's also disturbing, but not exactly shocking, to know that for a few beers and some pocket change there are dudes in Itaewon willing to "act like jerks and losers" for any Korean male with a camera.
