And you could teach anywhere you wanted, where would you go? Your choice has to be based on current market trends and demand. For example, you might want to teach English in the Congo but you would probably have to volunteer.

Or would you just stay right where you are in Korea?

I like it here, though I'd also like to try Tibet someday.

China or Thailand if you are a go-getter type. Much better savings potential.

Stay in Korea if you are the stereotypical, gap-year, Welsh, EFL teacher type.

Are you kidding?

I'd be out here on the first flight. Who in their right mind would stay here unless you were married?

Italy, France, Spain, Austria, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Swiss, Germany, Portugal, the list goes on and on

No more kimchi, crappy food, people that know how to walk correctly down the street, real Western food, no ajummas shoving me all the time acting like barbarians, people that don't know how to share, double standards, hacking on the street, adjosshi ego trips, Korean culture, ugly buildings, getting stared at and followed all the time, less racism (media AND every day life), better quality of life, more vacation, et al.

Strangely enough a mate of mine was thinking about applying for this one the other day. I think there were teachers jobs going too.

I can't actually think of many places where Brits are not allowed to work as TEFL teachers (we must have a better reputation around the world than Steelrails would have us believe Laughing ) Don't know about North Americans.

Not sure what you imply by a Visa free world. However one of the things you would have is loads of people from third world countries relying on missions and help to eat and also running scams directly in the developed nations. If all you needed was an entrance stamp to get in a country, and given that the stay was limited you would have enormous amounts of money spent deporting people on flights and buses. That's why the West only allows people from third world countries to enter after an exhaustive process to get a Visa.

I can't think of many places either. However my understanding is Americans are preferred in South Korea and I know for a fact they are preferred on the Arabian Peninsula. Let's hope that things change.

Careful....around here, someone might accuse you of being an "apologist" with talk like that.

Quite simply, a world where you could live and work without restrictions.

We are having a light hearted look at choices that could be made in the world of EFL if those pesky work visas didn't exist, that is all.

You are veering the post off track. Let's us try and keep on track - thanks. Wink

They are preferred on the Arabian peninsula? Americans are having a hard time at this moment getting Iqamas for Saudi Arabia, I never saw this preference first hand if I am being honest.

I have to say. Italy has problems with rude people, racism, walking into you, harassment if you are a woman and getting ripped off in the workplace - is the grass greener on the other side of the fence? I think in the case of Italy vs Korea it wouldn't be though Spain, Germany, France would be good choices in my opinion.

Spain , not for the money , but for the culture.

It's on the radar, but I have some unfinished business / places to see in Asia first.
