I'm going to be teaching in Korea pretty soon. I've been trying to research the school I'm going to but all I can find is a website. Could I go to the Korean consulate and ask about the school?

No. That wouldn't work at all. Sorry, they would have absolutely ZERO
idea what you are talking about and -Zero information. That is not in their
jurisdiction. You'd have a much better chance using this site or another discussion board inquiring from fellow teachers. I hope this answers your question. |

Welcome. If you have any questions prior to or during your stay please post them here. Someone who has been there and done that will willingly reply. |

There's no foolproof way of getting completely accurate information about a school. I wish I could tell you that you can trust other foreign teachers but that's not true. You can talk to a current teacher but they may lie just to get you there to share the workload. You can talk to a former teacher but they may have an ax to grind. Plus, the situation at the school can change rapidly as school's change owners and Korean teachers at the drop of a hat.
I'd say talk to the current and former teachers, and try to sift through what they're saying and see if any alarms go off. |

This is your best bet.
I talked to a the current "head teacher" at one school before signing. He lied through his teeth, and when I got there it was completely different than what he had said.
On the other hand I talked to a former teacher at another school and she was very honest and I ended up not signing with them and getting into an argument with that school's coordinator after calling him out on all the lies in the contract.
Always ask to get a current and former teacher's email. If they refuse, they're obviously hiding something and it's a red flag. |

^^. This happened to me. After I transferred, she left. Later, she send me an email and apologized for lying and misleading me about the school.
The fact was, she wanted to break her contract and go home. The boss agreed to everything IF she could find a replacement very quickly.
In essence, people, teachers. schools, forums, is a 50-50 shot in the dark, if that.
RESEARCH.ASK QUESTIONS. GET EMAILS. RESEARCH. ASK QUESTIONS. |

Do you already have the E2 visa? If so then why bother? E2 visa means you're stuck with that school. |

If you're looking for info on a public school you will probably have a harder time.
There are sites for hagwons though if you need information. eg. http://hagwon.reliableteacher.com/ |

I'm fine with going and finding out and asking teachers. It's just my family wanted to find out more about the school. They're a little nervous about me leaving. |

Gee, what can they be nervous about?
What are they afraid of? This is a serious question. |
