It would be really helpful for teachers in Korea to have lesson plans and power points others have made at their disposal. It's an invaluable resource.
Other sites have already done this and they've been hugely successful with it. It's very helpful for teachers to collaborate and in many cases those of us teaching at public schools are teaching the same text. But also many EFL topics are totally general (things like comparatives, superlatives and quantifiers) and would be useful in any setting.
We could also just help each other with classroom management strategies, teaching techniques, etc.
The Korea forum needs a lesson plan area. |

Some teachers have worked hard and put a lot of time and effort into their resources. Their hard work and accumulated resources can lead to higher pay and a smoother workload. The have built up a bigger and better set of tools. They have been diligent in improving their craft. Some have studied on-line or have completed the CELTA, or have gotten a degree in education.
On the other hand, there are the welfare folks. These folks want a piece of the pie, for free, that others have worked hard to develop and/or attain. Lazy. These folks are worth about 1.8 million per month, 1 sick day, and 1 vacation day when the weather is too bad for the students to come to school. |

I've worked with the welfare teachers. They are always looking for free worksheets and such. Sure they will share their material with you. Their material is a copy of your material that you put together four months ago. |

Part of the issue is that lesson plans are very tailored in Korea. Because of the Hagwon system the level of students varies greatly and while western education is not "smoothed out" across the board, it's even more disparate here. The majority of my lesson plans only apply to my particular class and are tailored to their needs, although I'm sure some of the games and activities are easily share worthy.
But in those cases I think a lot of people are just looking for money for those resources. Except ddeubel I think he had a free game called Baam that's a huge success with public school classes. |

Dave DDuebel had a lot of good powerpoints but something happened and he had to take them down for some reason.

He was teaching at a PS for many years. One of the two things may have happened to him; his job was cut due to budget cut or he was replaced by young fresh outta college blonde girl.
As for the lesson plans/teaching forum, it's not necessary. |

LOL. The reports of my demise are great exaggerated. Never taught at a PS either but probably was replaced by a blonde
Living happily and still sharing loads of resources and helping teachers out all over the world. Reggie, like many others have posted up my materials everywhere - be nice to at least get a link back .....
Yeah, BAAM now has "Jeopardy" iconic status. Glad I made the game and tried to solve the riddle of getting more than just the high achievers to try and pay attention.
I'm doing lots including building EnglishCentral and launching a publishing platform. Teachers can publish their resources and sell them (or give for free). You can find all the BAAM games there but just google and you'll see hundreds of people selling/giving them away etc.... but appreciate anyone's support by purchasing or also purchasing lifetime suporter membership on EFL Classroom (my home site with loads of Korea specific materials). As others have said above, so many just want cheap and free. That's good but there is a time to pay and after years, years of giving everything away for free - I've come to understand that people don't value "free" or at least most don't.
cheers,
ddeubel

I voted yes, but you are right. Not a hell of a lot of serious teachers hang out here. |

I think the waygook.org has free resources, some things tailored to
public school elementary classes.
I never had much use for other peoples resources because they always seemed either too simple to be useful or so complicated that I couldn't figure out how to use them.
By simple I mean they were just going over very basic stuff that any fool
with half a brain could do... so I did. |

Not necessarily. Most Dave's posters (and this would include you, transmogrifier) are lifers who work at a university. With all their experience, I'm sure they're good teachers. I'd like to hear some of their good ideas. And I'd like to hear some ideas from you. How does one become a good teacher? What are some tips and advice? |
