|
|
Is there anyplace in South Korea now that is not hot as ---? Does anywhere get a cool ocean breeze. I'm not even sure if I should look to the west or east for a beach with a cool breeze.
A friend came from Incheon today and told me Seoul seems 3 degrees hotter than Inchoen. Not good to hear.
If anyplace has decent weather now, I might just take a few days to go see next week.
Thanks, |

Busan gets an ocean breeze but this time of the year you may be hard pressed to find a spot in Korea that is not a boiler!
The only places that could be marginally cooler would be in the country side, away from the larger concrete filled cities.
National parks with mountains and streams - rivers may offer you marginal respite from the heat...maybe.
This is one of the seasons I do not miss in Korea! |

Gangwon-do might be a good option. Has mountains and higher elevations than the Seoul area, and no big cities (by ROK standards). Also can get an ocean breeze on the coast.
Only downside is traffic can really be slow and awful on the summer weekends since so many people are headed to the coast. |

It’s true that Seoul is usually a tad bit hotter than Incheon, however the difference is less than 1 Celsius Degree if you are looking at averages for a week at least. On the other hand, the humidity is significantly higher in Incheon so you are not better off there.
For the first 10 days of August, the average max humidity was 94% in Incheon and 76,6% in Seoul. The average min. humidity was 82% in Incheon and 61% in Seoul. (kma)
That’s a big difference and I would rather take the slightly higher temperatures with lower humidity. |

NE Gangwondo checking in. I just had visitors for 10 days (daughter & grandson) & we were on a daily hunt for natural aircon. Lots of options hereabouts.
Beaches: rent a parasol for the day, dip in & out of the sea, lots of cold beverages, pleasant!
Beaches after sunset: popular, almost as busy as the daytime, cooling breezes.
Mountain hikes: shaded, a few degrees lower than sea level, sweaty but nice.
Park strolls: shaded & level walks around a lake.
"Forest bathing": cool running streams in forest valleys, you set up a picnic spot on a rock where you can dangle your feet in the water & take an occasional plunge, definitely the most refreshing day we spent.
Waterparks: Waterpia is a kick (my grandson, 9, loved it) but its busy & expensive. Half a dozen other condos here also have refreshing pool & spa facilities open to the public, all fed with natural spring water.
Theres lots of extra buses running from Dongseoul to Sokcho. I caught one from there yesterday (saturday early afternoon) & it only took 3 hours. |
