Hi there. I need to do a visa run very very soon. Is anyone from Busan taking the ferry to Fukoka in the next week- that I can hook up with? I have never taken this trip before and really have no idea how to go about it. This trip can be done in a day right?
Any advice would be appreciated. |

| You might want to make a reservation. There aren't always seats available. The telephone # is 051-465-6111. I'm going soon also, but not sure just when as I'm waiting on immigration and my blue paper. |

| There was a post about visa runs to Japan recently. It should be turned into a sticky. |

I've heard that it can be done in a day in Osaka, but Fukuoka takes more than a day. You might want to double check that, though. |

Yeah Fukouka needs a one night stopover. Can't be done in a day unless you fly there early in the morning.
To the OP, don't worry and if you have any questions there is an excellent visa run guide on www.pusanweb.com that outlines step by step the Busan to Fukuoka run.
Enjoy your trip |

Yes, it can be done in a day. That is, if you take the overnight ferry from Busan. You arrive in Fukuoka at 7:00 am and you have a full day to get things done. As long as you get directly over to the Korean embassy, you should be able to get it done the same day. The return trip leaves at 6:00 or 7:00 pm (you'll have to check on that) so you have plenty of time to spend walking around the city.
The overnight ferry is OK, but you may not like sleeping on the floor in the common area with a large group of other passengers, so if you want to pay extra, you can get a private cabin. Book ahead, to be sure they aren't sold out.
There is the visa run site on pusanweb that you can explore before you go. It gives you some directions and I think there is a map as well.
I hope this helps. |

Osaka can be done in one day, but it's fun! I just got back from Japan about 15 minutes ago from a night in Seoul and the 8-hour trip to Osaka. I'll be posting the directions on how to do it to Osaka on the Yahoo! group that I started at the suggestion of others. If you have a yahoo ID, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/visarunclub and you can get the links to pages and other information. It's not complete yet, but it's getting better.

| Is the ferry from Busan to Japan....Japanese or Korean operated? The ferry from Busan to Jeju of course is Korean... but is it ever dirty! Smelly. Crowded rooms. I can't imagine the Japanese operating something dirty. Or is it? |

Would NOT recommend this ferry, as it is old and crowded and shockingly bad.
The jet ferry is run by JR raliways(Japanese) and is a much better option so if you take this(which I just assumed you would) you will need an overnight stay. |

Well to each his/her own I guess. Shockingly bad? I wouldn't say that, but yes, sleeping on the floor isn't the most comfortable. The boat itself was certainly clean and well run. Expensive to eat onboard though, you need Japanese money.
I found it much better to spend the night travelling to Japan than to arrive at 5:00pm on the beetle and then have to try to find a hotel room for the night. I ended up spending half the night being drenched in torrential rains as I wasn't able to secure a room.
If that's your bag of tea, by all means, go for it.

As a rule if you are in a new city and want to find a clean, cheap and available hotel head for the main train station of that city and there is always one. In Fukuokas case there are many. |
