|
|
This is sort of a random question... A friend of mine is dating someone (and considering becoming serious) with someone who works at an English kindergarden. She is Korean. He is not. She told me a bit about him (I've never meet him). It sounds like a lot he says is exaggerated so I've warned her to be careful. I know a lot of men (and women) will exaggerate to make themselves look better, especially when dating.
She is especially concerned about his pay. To be honest, I don't really know about how much you can make in a kindy. I would guess somewhere between 2 million on the lower end and 2.7 on the higher end.... However he is claiming to make much more than this. Anyone have the good idea of how much you would make at one? |

I would think even if he has a big giant pair of red shoes and a honk honk nose and farts rainbows it would be difficult to make much more than 2.7. |

He'd be pulling 3.0 maximum at somewhere like Poly School for instance. Unless he's a head teacher or owns the place, I would seriously doubt that he'd be making more than that. |

If he's working two jobs, maybe up to 5mil.
If not he's either lucky or lying. |

He's only working one job and doesn't do privates... As far as she knows. He said he was a head teacher. What does this mean at a kindy? He doesn't speak Korean, so I don't really understand what someone in this position would do. Also, does being a head teacher mean a lot more in terms of salary? |

Being a head teacher does not normally earn one a lot more than 3 million won on a monthly basis at a kindergarten unless 1) he/she has a masters or a PhD from a top British (i.e. Oxford or Cambridge as it's the only ones the average Korean knows) or American (Ivy League) university, 2) it is located in a rich neighborhood in Seoul (i.e. Kangnam) and 3) he/she speaks Korean fluently. |

Typical Situation:
second year base salary + 100,000
third year maybe increase another 100,000; now hit salary cap
head teacher position + 100,000
Situations vary,
I would think a foreign teacher, at a kindy hogwon, in their third year or more, as a head teacher, will be pushing it to make more than 2.7 mil. |

He could be making upwards of 10 million. The competition and qualifications are so high to teach at kindy level there are only a few qualified candidates nationwide. |

I'd guess he's lying about not doing privates. Maybe he doesn't want any problems if he breaks up with her. |

How much does your friend make? What are her qualifications? What does she bring to the table? Whatever that guy makes at his hogwon, good chance it's more than she makes. |

I know of a job posting a short while ago where the pay was 3.2 (maybe 3.4) for up to 5 hours kindy a day. Multiple schools all at 40k an hour each. |

Yeah, I do that at 50k/hour but I have an F visa. Kindies will only hire F-visa holders on such part-time basis. |

Wow, man, that is high pay. Did you find that through a recruiter (which would be somewhat suprising as recruiters take a large cut) or on your own (which would also be surprising as schools hiring part time are easier to find through recruiters)? How many hours in a row do you get at that 50k/hour rate? More than one? If so, that's a sweet deal. |
