Wow, man, that is high pay. Did you find that through a recruiter (which would be somewhat suprising as recruiters take a large cut) or on your own (which would also be surprising as schools hiring part time are easier to find through recruiters)? How many hours in a row do you get at that 50k/hour rate? More than one? If so, that's a sweet deal. |
At some places I’m hired directly. At others I work through a middle person. She is not a recruiter but there are these companies providing books, Korean English teachers and the like for kindies. Well, with the middle person I get 45k.
I used to work 4-5 block hours in a day (back than I got 40/hour) but now almost all classes are scheduled from noon which means less hours unfortunately. The least I work is 3 hours and the most is 4hours and 45 minutes and it’s one location/day. |

| Wow, man, very well done. I am surprised and impressed. 3-4.75 hour blocks at 50k an hour is really good money. Do you like teaching kindy? (If you enjoy it, even better.) |

Thanks for the input everyone. It sounds like jobs like this exist but are few and far between. He also said the hagwon bought him a car which I also find hard to believe, but who knows. I guess the truth will come out sooner or later.
As to the person who asked what she brings to the table... She's pretty, well educated and super nice. I don't know how much she makes, but overall she's a pretty good catch. The longer I live in Korea, the longer I realize dating someone who is financially stable is important. So I think if she plans to get serious, wanting to know about his finances is perfectly logical. |

The only reason a hagwon would give its employer a car was if he/she was working outside of the confines of his or her visa, as in being 'lent' to companies and other hagwons across town. Knowing that, I'd tell her to be cautious. Sounds to me like someone's looking for an F visa.

I know a guy that married for the F visa. I talk with him from time to time. It seems he and his wife are always having problems; just the opposite of my other foreign friends who have Korean spouses. I think he pretty much does his thing and she does her thing. But yes, he was definitely out to get the visa. I'm not sure what she was looking for. But she wasn't mature enough for marriage, and still isn't. |

Has your friend seen his car? If this guy is taking your friend out on dates and using the bus/subway system, that's a pretty obvious tell that the dude's talking out of his ass.
Tell her to take a good look at his shoes and watch as well. It shouldn't be that difficult to spot another 2 million/month hobo living paycheck to paycheck. |

It's the way most women behave. They talk to each other about their relationships in a serious way. I know a lot of you guys can't understand the concept. If they can, they look out for each other as well. Such as finding out from other people in the know whether a guy is exaggerating or not. Seems like perfectly normal female behaviour to me. |

I'm a female and she's a female. Both of us are straight so we have no "interest" in each other. She told me about the guy she was dating and asked for some feedback. I don't know much about the pay of hagwon workers, so I thought I'd ask here. I'm not sure why that's strange.
Someone asked what she brought to the table and I answered. Hence the quote above.
She's my friend and I care about her. That's why it's my business. |
