I understand what the OP is driving at, but I think he's being pretty one-sided about it. There are plenty of things here in the States that annoy me, but there are also many things here I appreciate. Keep in mind, I'm comparing my life in Seoul to life here in a smaller community in the Midwest.

People are genuinely friendly. Not all, of course, but more so than in Seoul. It's not crowded. I can see tons of greenery every day, and countless stars nearly every night. Prices on food and goods are much lower. The weather. By a mile. My wife visited Korea this past month and hated the weather. I heard it was nothing but rain and sweltering humidity (which sounds about right for Korean summer). Meanwhile, here it rarely got above 80 degrees (F). And the obesity thing? Way overplayed from what I've seen. I went to the beach expecting to see "fat Americans" and while there were several large adults, the kids looked to be in just as good a shape as their Korean counterparts. Watched plenty of Little League games and AYSO soccer matches and never saw any obese kids. The chubbier ones were no chubbier than plenty of Korean kids I saw around the neighborhood schools in Seoul.

Having said all that, I do miss Korea. I miss affordable health care. I miss good public transportation. I miss teaching. I don't understand the complaint about US TV and Korean TV isn't any better. If I lived in a bigger city, I'm sure I'd miss the level of security I felt in Seoul. Fact is, if I were offered a job at an international school in Korea, I'd take it. In the meantime, things over here are different, but in no way would I say it's terrible being here. Some things are worse, some things are better. Kinda makes sense, really.

smh @ people complaining about TV being no good. Here's an idea: turn off the TV. I don't have TV in my apartment, and I'm much better off for it.
