California cuisine is an oxymoron.
I kid. San Fran has some awesome food.
Another thing that's hard to find here would be raisin bran muffins. I could make my own, but I don't want a whole batch, and my freezer is full of Costco cheeses, tortillas, fish sticks, and Gringos burritos. Making small batches just isn't worth the trouble.
Screw it. I'm going to try aliensdayout's bran muffins. I've heard good things. |

hawaii has awesome korean food too |
CA is pretty inferior to NYC When it comes to food. The only edge CA has is Mexican. California pizza is garbage compared to NYC.
Again, you stated Korean food in CA is better than Korean food in Korea. All the gyopos you agreed with dont count.
Thats like me saying some sushi joint in a food court prepared by an immigrant from Mexico and owned by a Korean tasted better than the real deal in Japan. And Ive had the real deal in Japan. Fail. |

your comparison makes no sense; korean food in the US is still authentic because of the huge Korean diaspora located there. its made by korean immigrants, for korean customers in the korean neighborhood.
you honestly think a culture's cuisine cannot thrive outside of its homeland? like you can't find Indian/Chinese food in places like Singapore that's as good/better than it's place of origin?

I think soy milk is generally correct. Where I was raised, it takes a 20 plus hour drive to get to southern California, but I did go to college there. Just north of that insane asylum city known as LA, though a lot of the people I knew were from some part of that nutzo place and I spent more than enough time there. I don't recall ever eating any Korean food, but there were quite a few bomb diggity Asian restaurants that I'd eat at regularly. Here in Korea? Disappointment after disappointment. I can't stomach the filth; black noodles, all of the cold, tasteless, weedy side dishes, resting your used fork or chopsticks on the dirty table between bites instead of angling them on the dish in front of you, that manure smell emanating from those Jaws food stands you walk by, ugh, it makes me sick and obviously feeds my hypochondriacitc.. ness. I'll hit up Ho-Lee Chow for some kung pao chicken every now and then, or some Korean BBQ if it's a trusted spot, but that's as far as I go these days. The food here is funky. But, the food in California isn't the best, either. I remember getting some Carl's Jr. drive thru on my way to meet some friends in San Luis Obisbo... bit into the chicken tender... and my teeth hit cold patch of chicken ice. It took me a while before I could confidently order chicken tenders again. Glad that sweet chicken teriyaki place was always around, though. |

cute! someones premenstrual.
i mentioned i wasnt gyopo because IPayInCash seemed to think only gyopo agreed that korean food in california was better than in the motherland.
if youre serious about the chinese food thing ...
as stated by IPayInCash, japanese food in japan is better in japan, not for authenticitys sake but because it really does taste better. i think that while chinese-american food is in a class of its own, its not BETTER than chinese food in china. korean food in los angeles, ca, is not "korean-american food" in the same way that chinese-american food is. have you actually had either? |

i went to california to visit friends/family late last year and the prices were between $8.99 and $15.99 (excluding 10% sales tax in la county + tip) for a stock chigae. i dont know about the bbq because i wasnt allowed to pay!

| Large shoes are oddly getting harder to find. Last time I was in Itaewon, only one place (good ol' Wangbal) had my size (American 15) but very little choice. I used to at least get to choose between a few different pairs at a few different shops. This is not good. My current crop of shoes are starting to fall apart. |

Just as soon as you learn the difference between "less" and "fewer." Otherwise, stop being a tit. |

sorry to break it to you war eagle, but chinese food in america is NOT chinese food. it's what the chinese immigrants made to appease americans who couldn't stomach traditional chinese food. it could be called "american food with a touch of chinese" perhaps.
and korean food in the states is nowhere near as good as in korea. even in koreatown in nyc in the places run by koreans it's still not the same. |
