Does this seem weird? They want to change the 12 month contract to 6 months. Does this seem like a trick in case they don't like me? Is this common?

Odd but not shady (since visas are typically issued for 1 year).

They may simply want to get your contract to coincide with the academic year.

If they were changing it to 11 months or 50 weeks then it would be shady.

Do they want to change the contract prior to your start/arrival or have you already begun teaching? There is a BIG difference between the two scenarios?

Oh then count your blessings.

This isn't so bad. I wish I'd found a 6 month contract before I came. This could easily be a win/win situation. Be sure to read the entire contract before you sign anything and whatever you do, don't pay your own flight, unless it is a public school.

This wouldn't happen to be public school in Nowon Gu, would it?
If so, take it.

Someone recently posted wanting a shorter contract. If you don't want it, maybe they do.
