How about the men who are blonde and blue eyed with big boobs? Should they also get special treatment?

After all, we know recruiters want the blonde females. Maybe I should change my name to Tootsie.

Men with big boobs tend to be on the husky side, but sure, why not?

The husband should've been fired for disrespecting Korean culture. Who does he think he is for doing the most "byuntae" act there is -- having sexual intercourse with his own wife, instead of hitting the room salons like a normal man? He should probably be fined and deported. I hope the parents at the school don't find out what that married couple did.

Joking aside, though, for future reference, Koreans are used to fat westerners. If you get pregnant, just complain about being fat until after you've worked there for at least 6 months.

^^. Agreed.

And then what do you do for the other 3?

So you are saying I should just dye my hair blonde and get colored contact lens?

If you are in a disgusting relationship and you are not trying to reproduce yet you accidentally reproduce... you are an idiot.

You should be fired for being an idiot.

At my school the other foreign teacher wasn't doing anything at work. I met with the manager and I told him to fire the other teacher and let me do all the other classes until a replacement was found.

Assuming you've been there for more than 6 months, they can't (or at least shouldn't be able to) fire you without just cause. If you're married and get pregnant, it isn't just cause, and, depending on how much you want to pursue it, you can sue. The contracts have a maternity leave clause for a reason.

Let's picture this. You get pregnant, pretend to be fat, and then after 6 months pretend to just have gotten pregnant? Yea, ok Laughing

While many employment contracts state "employment at will" and that employees can be fired "without cause," at least in the US that isn't really the case:

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Breach+of+an+Implied+Covenant+of+Good+Faith+and+Fair+Dealing

As Korea is a civil law jurisdiction and I imagine there is some statute about gender discrimination/maternity issues, I would expect that the hagwon owner would lose in a well-prepared lawsuit.

Obviously, you have to invest a lot of resources, and you don't have the threat of a multi-million dollar judgment for wrongful termination like you do in the states. So that definitely makes it tough for the couple, even though I reckon the employer is legally in the wrong.

sadly it'd probably work. koreans would assume you're fat because you're a foreigner and then when you pop the pregnancy thing they'd probably be like "oh. the fat girl is pregnant. cute!" because koreans also seem to enjoy telling people about things at the very last possible minute.

Well you'd obviously say that you are less pregnant than you are and finish the contract, unless you're close to popping the little parasite out and planning on taking maternity leave. Then I'd assume it would be smart to have a lawyer ready.

If the school is really small, paying for maternity leave can be a real big issue. Imagine a 10 teacher school that's barely getting by having to pay for maternity leave and hiring a new teacher. That's a lot of cash.

Then it shouldn't be in the contract.
