I overspent on my korean credit card and gave up trying to pay back.
Yesterday i went to the bank to open an account and they said there is a restriction on my ARC (im F6).

Can a private company like Lotte Card create any problems for me regarding my visa?

I guess one problem is you can't open any more accounts or line of credits.

Deadbeat. You're in a country where it is exceedingly easy to make money. Pay your bills.

And given the Korean tendency to associate the actions of the individual with the actions of the group, I guess we have you to thank in part for all the hoops we have to jump through to get something as simple as a credit card.

Many financial institutions in many countries will deny banking privileges
to individuals who have shown a lack of financial responsibility. Since your identification in this country is linked to your visa, er... I think the answer is yes.

I know of one person who was stopped and interrogated at immigration over a 110,000 won unpaid balance on a bill. His visa was flagged. He paid the bill and they "lifted" the restriction. Not sure how your case applies.

This isn't a restriction on an ARC, like trying to leave the country and getting stopped at the airport. This is a "hey, you screwed us, pay your GD bills" flag that is put on ANYONE in ANY country. Try walking out on debt in Canada/USA/England/[INSERTCOUNTRYHERE] and then setting up a bank account. Of COURSE you'll be flagged on your ID number, which is all the ARC card is - a national ID number that every person in the country has.

I honestly don't know how some people survive...

Scammers like you give expats a bad name in Korea, but what the hell were you expecting in this forum? Pity?

Well don't encourage them because there is no excuse for Koreans to brand us all on the actions of the OP. None whatsoever.

So, cavarsan, are you pulling some kind of scam on the credit card company? A look at your posting history reveals that you are quite active on the buy/sell/trade forums. You have listed many brand new, never been used high-end electronics for sale.

For example:

Two new 15" Apple MacBook Pros, one with Retina display

Another 15" brand new MacBook Pro

A 13" MacBook Pro

A different 13" MacBook Pro

A brand new Galaxy S4, never used

An Ipad 3

A Samsung 32" LED TV

All of this suggests that you are buying these electronics on your credit card then trying to sell them for cash. Every brand new item is listed at a discount off the store price...but what do you care? You've already stated you don't intend to pay your credit card bill. Free money! Right?

Oh, I know, but it happens.

You can see it happening in reverse as well, on these boards.

I think you might find that this is not a tendency that is unique to Korea.
