I know when a new hagwon opens they can't apply for visas until they have been inspected by the education office so maybe this is the hold up. Same happened to me a few years ago.

Hello there!

I have recently been hired by a Hagwon that is just starting up in Osan. I sent them my documents (they arrived July 22) to apply for my visa issuance number so I could apply for the E-2 visa in Canada. It has now been one month, and I haven't received the number. I was told during the interview that I would be leaving in mid-August, and that's out of the question now.

I am a little worried that things might not be working out. I have talked to my recruiter a few times and they said that things are taking a little longer than usual because it's busy at the Immigration office.

Has this happened to anyone else before? I want this job so badly and I really hope everything is OK.

A start-up hagwon and a newbie EFL teacher when combined are a recipe for disaster.

At this point in time (VCNs usually take 4-10 working days) I'd be guessing that they have problems with paperwork and it isn't the lineup at immigration.

^^. Bless your heart. You only "think" you want this job so badly.

If it doesn't work out, please count your blessings.

New schools and New teachers=OMG! what happened?

Anything beyond two weeks is a BAD SIGN.

(forewarned is forearmed)

Thanks for the replies so far! I should have clarified that its a new branch of an already existing school chain. Also the director already owns another hagwon and he is starting this branch up. My interview was with another ESL teacher working for the director and he had lots of great things to say about it.

I'm not sure if that changes what you guys have said.

Nope...

Newbie teacher + new school (even if it is a franchise) = recipe for disaster.

Watch out for icebergs.
