Is this a recipe for disaster?
For the past couple of months I've been rushing to get my documents ready in time for an August 25th start date. I realized once I had mailed my docs to Korea that this simply wasn't going to happen. I have since received my Visa #, and mailed my docs to the nearest Korean Consulate. The school has revised my schedule to reflect the delay, but not much. They have booked my flight leaving on the morning of August 30th. My passport, meanwhile, isn't expected to be ready until August 29th at 2PM.
Will my school understand, and rebook me immediately if I miss my flight?
To think that this whole process is coming down to the very day before I fly is making me nauseous.. scoping out street corners and preparing my "will teach for food" sign now.. |

I am in exactly the same situation as you. But I've been told that once my school books a ticket then if they have to cancel it due to me not receiving my visa in time, then I'm on the hook for a million won for a change of flight.
Seems ridiculous to me. Hopefully your school is a little better about it.
But yes, one way or another, they will rebook the ticket I'm sure. |

OBwannabe, was that part of your contract? Or did you since find that out communicating with your school?
That's a lot of money to give up over a schedule that a teacher was pressured into taking. In my case, I never explicitly OK'd the schedule. I told my recruiter that the schedule works for me, though I'll have to confirm with the Korean Consulate that I'll have my Visa in time. The next email I received was my itinerary. |

Heh, some things never change. Exactly my intro to Korea years ago. Best luck OP. |

Am I missing something? The visa/passport will be ready the day before you fly. Therefore you will have it before your flight. What seems to be the problem? |

There isn't a problem if everything is punctual. But my experience with the document process has shown that this is not always the case. When I first mailed my documents to the Korean Consulate (mailed, because I live four plus hours away) I encountered a delay. Receiving my visa issuance # also took longer than expected.
I'm not wondering where I stand if everything goes as planned, that would be fantastic. Only planning for the worst. |

Depends on where you live. I picked up my passport in person and from there went straight to the airport. I only lived about an hour away from the embassy. You should have no problems picking it up the day before. |
