I was 28, you'll be grand. Loads of almost thirties here.

There's plenty of people much older than that. Not everyone came here right out of college. Some came after a divorce, or they lost their job back home, or needed a change, or met a Korean woman and followed her here. Plenty of people in their forties and fifties teaching here. There is a wide range of life stories.

Do not worry about it for one moment. I don't think you're even allowed into Seoul Pub unless you're at least forty. Very Happy

... 28 is definitely not the average age of graduation. 27/28 would be graduated+ a few years working in their chosen field...

Not everyone here has a simple BA. Never heard of grad school?

Hmm. I plan on applying for next year, when I'll be 41. But I look young for my age, people think when they see me with one of my teenage daughters that we're a couple, (awkward). Or brother/sister. Also, I have a BA in education, a teaching license in the U.S. and 7 years classroom experience. Do you think this will offset my age? What if I like it there and want to stay a long time? Will they just fire me someday because I've gotten too old?

You sound like an actor wondering whether he can still get the leading man roles Rolling Eyes Wouldn't you rather get a job where this kind of thing doesn't matter? You look well qualified enough.

Hogwans don't care about experience. They want a white face on the cheap that kids will like well enough to brag to mommy about who pays the bills.

You may try international schools (Korea and elsewhere) for best and most satisfying results. Most certified teachers hate ESL once they start teaching it.

As for the age issue, this article gives hope. Are we finally seeing a recovery?

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/01/markets-korea-stocks-idUSL4N0GV11Y20130901?type=companyNews&feedType=RSS&feedName=companyNews&rpc=43

Let's hope there's more money to be thrown around in Korea again as they get back to exporting and that consumer confidence in the US rises. That'll change the market here for sure. But, I suspect it will be somewhere in between working conditions the last few years and pre 2009 levels as far as employment prospects go. Let's cross our fingers and hope its not a false start....

Ah pre 2009, those were the days, when 50 and 60 year old teachers ruled the rural countryside. Ha ha.

with the market flooded, recruiters and schools can pretty much dictate what they want nowadays. You might just get in if lucky.
