hi,
i have been here over 3 years and recently changed jobs, and hate my new job. i am now 1 month into a new contract and looking to leave korea.
my question is about pension, specifically what happens if i do a midnight run?
is there any way that my new employer/director can do something to delay or prevent me receiving my lump sum refund?
i am not really worried about the 1 or 2 months that i will be owed from the new job, just about the 8 million plus that is already in my account.
i will be returning to the US and getting back on with my career there so am not worried about LOR or any visa issues, only the pension.
thoughts? advice?
cheers...

Your employer doesn't control pension. You might want to call the pension office and make sure there is money there though.

As long as there is money in your NPS account you can get the refund.
You need:
passport
ARC
one way ticket out of Korea.

Go to the NPS office and fill in the forms.

There is NOTHING an employer can do to prevent or delay the refund.

BUT if you apply early for the pension, some pension people might ruin the surprise of the midnight run. Officials have been know to call schools about ending times and that.

Do check out the pension website on other options on refund, even from overseas back home. More difficult but doable.

This would be a useful read for you. It has a link to the form needed and also advises you bring your bank account information.

Do it on your way to the airport or the day after payday.
Leave the following day. No-one will stop you from leaving.

The refund will still happen on schedule
